Your probably right, although I do like to shop around and check out pricing ahead of time.. I've just been on Discount Tires site to get an idea.
ask Tim - if you have a problem, it sure does suck to have to deal with an online vendor - ya can't just pop around the corner and chew someone out and get it fixed.. to say nothing of the extra time it takes to get issues resolved. I do exactly what you are doing - get some idea of what I am up against doing online searches and then go to the local guy with a better understanding of what I should expect

Good point. I didnt catch all of Tim's issues, but I did see things were not working out well.

Discount tires is good. I use Tire Rack. I've bought my last 6 sets of tires from them across all our cars over the past 5 years.

like the tires I bought for my truck last year, I had to go back to the place several times to get a balance problem resolved - it would have been a full on nightmare if I had bought them online

Last 3 sets of tires I purchased came from Wal-Mart. Free shipping to my door, but I do have a tire machine and balancer. Small little local independant tire shops can be quite competitive on pricing though.

The tires weren't the issue other than he bought front ones that were too wide. That wasn't the vendors fault. His real issues were with the wheels he bought.

And it was the local tire shop that screwed them up when they went to put the center caps on and the threads weren't right.

Not with Tire Rack when you use one of their recommended local installers. If there is an issue with the tire, they work with Tire Rack to correct the issue for you. In fact you can even have the tires delivered directly to the installer and have them waiting there for you when you bring in your car.

Who do you normally get car tires from? I would hope pretty near any tire shop could competently get and install trailer tires. On the other hand, if you don't have a 'regular' shop, it might be a good opportunity to scout out who you might use in the future. As Tim found, when it comes to fitting bigger tires and especially when dealing with wheels issues, they are not all equal.

just easier to go local - Tim's mistake was trusting them to do more than put tires on
