Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good morning. Nice to catch up on this thread. I see Memike hasn't stopped by in awhile. Hope our friend is OK.

Friday a tornado destroyed a house and damaged some others, and snapped a bunch of big trees, not far from me. Nobody injured though.

What do you guys and gal think of this: driving home last night in my Toyota, a couple times the battery warning light came on AND the dash lights got real bright at the same time, for a couple seconds.

I figure I'll need a new alternator but do you think I'm safe to drive it a few miles tomorrow to the shop I use? Today I'll just ride my bike if I need to go anywhere.

Should I be afraid something will get fried on the 20 min drive, seeing as how the voltage seemed to jump like that?

Good morning Dave. I stopped by a bit earlier just to see a few of the earlier croud taking off for the day. Yep, sounds like you may need a alternator. I had to put one on my tool truck Friday. I drove around all Thursday with just battery power. Good thing it's a diesel. I spent yesterday hanging out with my buddies at the drag strip for a Mopar only meet. I put my Swinger in the car show and got a top 10 trophy. Not very big but fun just the same. I met up with lkopaska (Lon) and we walked through the swap meet. Small swap meet but there were some bargains there. I also met GTS Dude in the staging lanes. He was busy so I didn't get a chance to talk. We all had a great time. tmm

Yep!

It sounds like you are getting overcharging spikes...

As long as they won't blow anything, you should be able to "limp" it around for a bit.

Better than not charging enough and you will eventually run the battery dead....

If you push the overcharging too long, you may fry the battery eventually...

Thanks Karl...the shop is 20 minutes away so I'll just keep my fingers crossed and carry a fire extinguisher. Unless anyone else thinks driving it even that far is a bad idea.

Maybe I will lure Hops and Keith and maybe even Mitch (longer drive) up here and we will come as a group. Still about 4 hours from me!

Thats a long haul from here. Carlisle, not far at all. I'll mostly just stick to the July all Mopar event though. Maybe Hershey in a couple weeks, but I got a lot goin on.

Urge to vent a little...and this doesn't refer to anyone here.

Why can't people seem to answer a yes or no question anymore?:banghead:

At work when I have a question lately, I even say, "Yes or No, (insert question here)? Unfortunately, that has backfired, now it's a source of endless entertainment to mock me, everyone goes around saying, "yes or no, yes or no" and deliberately not giving me a straight answer to anything. :banghead:

I don't know if I'm getting old but I just need a quick answer, so I can go about my job accordingly, not 2 minutes of song-and-dance and still not getting YES or NO.:violent1:

I guess this was more of a rant than a vent haha. That is all I wanted to get off my chest, carry on.:burnout:

Were you at any time ever using the rear defrost?

Since you are preparing for the trip with your
extinguisher have the wrenches with you to disconnect
battery cables quickly if needed.
Perhaps even disconnect and reinstall them a bit loose
before the drive as a precaution. Hope it goes without
anything as bad as fire.

Thank you, that's a really smart tip.

I'm probably worrying too much, it's just that this little Tercel has been really good transportation, even the mechanic who did the timing belt commented it's peppy (5 speed) and it's comfortable for around town, great mpg. Some day when it's gone, I'm going to miss "Rudy."

I always answer them.

Sometimes I say, "No"... :thumbdow:

Especially when people are expecting a "Yes"...

I like to say, "No" and watch the confused look on their face.... :???:

If they ask a yes or no question, it's "legal" to say "no".... #-o (It IS one of the options...) :evil1:

That way I train them not to ask me a question that they already know the answer to... They won't get the answer that they expect... :axe:

I think I'm gonna wrap up for the day. Got the porch and steps scraped, sanded and primed. Paint will have to wait. Not enough hours in the day. Still got to drive a couple hours home.
As for 'yes or no'. I don't see a problem saying that once in a while. If you do it too often, i kinda get the jerk responses from others. I will sometimes give smart a$$ answers, but especially at work you need to be careful when that interferes with someone doing their job. Not cool. Now if they already know the answer, polling for information, etc, I will mess with them every time.

We got the Superbird out and moved some engines in the back garage.

Started setting up some shelves and had to go to get some boards for shelves. Now we need to unload and cut them so we can load some engines on the shelves two high...

We're setting up the front garage to do the work, and the back one for storage.

Gotta go in a few minutes. Going Crabbing this morning with my buddy on his boat. Sold mine last month, cause I wasn't using it much. Much less of a pain to go with someone else. Chesapeake Blue Crabs, Yum, Yum

Good morning.
Too long since I've eaten crabs, gonna have to get some soon. Theres a good place right up the street to get them, I'm the only one here that wants them whole. Wife will only do crabcakes... Many years since I went crabbing. Got them with chicken wings on a string. Lot of fun.

I plan to go to Hershey Friday 10/9. Just put in for the day off. Don't need much for the Duster now, so probably looking at cars more than shopping. Works out good since I don't have much parts $$...
Let me know if anyone's going.
