Stop in for a cup of coffee

Another job?

Yeah, the place I'm at promised to give me an offer to go direct on Jan 2, and never came through...

I've obviously reached my maximum earning potential there and need to find a better gig with more potential to move up...

Good luck, with your skills should nail it.

I haven't read that one but our discussion here a few weeks ago changed my tune about how it all works. Interesting stuff.
Ported vs. Manifold Vacuum
I hope you read the follow up discussion after that got posted. He was doing fine until he claimed that manifold sourced distributor vacuum was an emmissions thing. That revealed how much how he doesn't know...

Oh I'm sure there is a caveat there somewhere. Ported vacuum has always worked for me but manifold vacuum is touted by many. Makes you wonder when and why it started. My original 66 AFB doesn't have a ported vacuum port but carbs just a fewer years newer did.

The 4295s AFb that came on the 66 273, has a ported vacuum port..

There's your answer. The 4295s is a 1967 273 auto trans carb. The 66 carbs are 4119,20,21,and 22's depending on whether they were standard, auto trans or CAP.

They must have used it in some 66's. It was on my 66 and it was for sure from the factory.

And I have seen info that stated 4295s was on the 66 as well.

Might have gotten on there as an early replacement, maybe a warranty replacement...But it was on my 66 273 and had been for a long time...

That could be. I got my info from the Galen book. It is possible they switched to the 42xx series carbs late in the production year especially if yours was a California built car.

Yea. There was another guy touting Manifold = Performance yesterday - I just replied.

But I do have a theory of where it came from. Just my opinion, but guys before Larry Shepard saw the long advance curves as a way to get easy starting on race cars - 1/4 mile Stock & Super Stock classes. This is what the Direct Connection tach drive distributors do. Then, perhaps not really understanding the implications, guys like Shepard setup the street/strip distributors with long mechanical advances. That's what Robb McC claims happened with the Mopar Performance distributors with the Mallory YH guts. So if one goes down that road with a hot rod, the base timing is insufficient. One way to bump it back up is use manifold vacuum on the vacuum advance.... sometimes it even works out. :)

Another chicken truck wreck. This time near Lancaster. Great advertising - They said the truck was heading to Perdue. then noted ' people were seen picking up the chickens and are advised to wash there hands because the chickens could have diseases' LOL
