Stop in for a cup of coffee

Another school shooting.
This is the result of a society that has taught kids for two decades now that their problems are the fault of others. So combine that with the over prescription of mind altering drugs, it's a deadly combo.

Prayers for all involved

Nothing is that simple...this was going on 40 years ago. Its not a new phenomenon, just the instant news that puts in your face immediately.

Correction...school shootings have been going on in America for the past 170 years.

In the 1800s:

break-down
  • In the decades 1840s and 1850's 1 Professor, 2 schoolmasters, and 1 schoolchild were (4) killed.
  • During the 1860s, 2 students, 2 teachers were (4) killed, 1 student was (1) injured.
  • During the 1870s, 1 schoolchild (unintentionally), 1 university student, 1 Professor, (3) killed. During the same decade 2 schoolteachers, 1 schoolchild (unintentionally), and 1 superintendent of the stables were (4) injured.
  • During the 1880's, 1 schoolmaster and 1 schoolteacher (female) were (2) killed, 6 schoolchildren (3 unintentionally), (6) injured.
  • During the 1890's, 10 schoolchildren (1 unintentionally) and 1 schoolteacher were (11) killed, 4 schoolchildren (plus 14 where the victims descriptions weren't given, and another, where the indicated number was reported as "several") and 1 high school Professor, (19 +) injured.
The number killed and injured in the 1800s was exactly the same percentage of the entire population as it was for the number killed and injured in the 1900s.

Like I said, not a new phenomenon.

Perhaps but the frequency seems to be increasing

Only in proportion to population density increases. The only way to keep people from killing each other is to keep them away from each other.

The only thing that has really changed is technology and the ability to kill more people faster. The root cause remains the same. Their brains snap and no one can see it coming.

The real fix is understand what happened to them and figure out if there is a way to detect and fix it before destruction occurs. There is zero commonality of culture between someone who killed and injured 19 people at a school in 1890 and someone who killed 17 at a school in 2018.

The only thing they have in common is that their brains snapped.

Makes sense. So for a young father who's daughter is going to public school in the fall, it's not very comforting

No, it isn’t. I’ve been living it with my daughter and she is just in 7th grade now. You need to have faith and understand that the odds are worse that she would be killed or injured riding in a car with me than going to school.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the news of stuff like this, but you need to put it all into perspective. Life is risky and there isn’t anything you can do about it. Just teach them the skills they need and pray for the rest.

No worse than going anywhere else. Could happen at a mall, church, some random street... Just perceived as worse cause mostly kids at school. Idiots everywhere.
