My old A/C system is old but (knock on wood) it works pretty good. When it gets to 90 or so (around 100 heat index) It will run for hours but it maintains 77° and 50% humidity or less. 3 floors, brick house with no insulation. The York compressor unit was here when we moved in almost 30 years ago and it was old then.
