Street Cam Suggestions for a 340?

-
Some type of roller cam. Solid or hyd, pick your poison.

Another vote for the Comp XE268.
On a mild small block, this cam is proven.
Order it from Summit.

Add another vote for this cam as well. I have in a 360 though. Runs great but a bit noisy. Sounds like a sewing machine.

Mine has that "sewing machine" sound too. From what I hear from a lot of people the whole XE hydraulic line is like that. There's a lot of ramp to those lobes and that's what slams the valves up and down creating that sound. Nothing to worry about as far as I know.

are the xe262 and xe256 noisy?
...i think they may be better street light to street light for this build

I imagine they would be less noisy, there's not quite the "ramp" to them that the larger cams have. It's honestly still hard to recommend a cam without knowing his static compression. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere unless I missed it. But the "go to" comp is the XE268H. It's a good middle ground of torque and horsepower. Of course if he's under 9:1 then I would definitely point at a whiplash cam, those cams are known for helping low compression engines up their dynamic ratios and perform.

The XE268H has been suggested several times.

Which is why the one cam I selected is based off a 9.5:1 engine. So it's middle of the road if you will. It would likely work well with a little more or a little less wit a little proper tuning.

..stock j heads stall out around .480 lift and 3.23 rear gears would not like duration much
greater than .215 @ .050 give or take
some of the suggested cams may be too large for your build on the street
When the xe268 first came out it was the number one selling cam for about 4 years
regardless of make but it needs a converter...power seems limitless
midrange and up!
