Streetmaster 318 vs. Performer for street use

I just went out for another run in the Dart (found some wires for 5 and 7) and used a program I have on my Iphone called Dynolicious, using the gyroscope in the phone it acts as a virtual Dyno and is supposed to be quiter accurate. One thing it does accuratly is 0-60 time.
Mine was 9.2 on average.
Very cool! Sounds like some sort of INS extrapolation-type thing similar to the old Vericom units I played with in my youth. It's a great tuning aid.

What is the exact weight of a '73 2 door Dart with a 318 with all the seats etc. still in place?
Unfortunately, I haven't taken mine across the scales yet. Someone here knows the answer, I'm sure.

What is the correct tire size to use as a reference to calculate speedo accuracy?
Had to dash outside for this one. My pillar decal shows minimum tire size as 6.95x14. That comes out to a 195 78R 14 which is really close to what's currently on it. The best way is probably to mark the tire and roll the car forward until the tire has made exactly one revolution. Measuring this distance will yield the circumference and this number can be used to calculate true diameter (ignoring growth from rotational forces). I generally calculate based on the numbers on the tire and it's close enough.
[((width x aspect ratio) x 2) + rim diameter] should do if I haven't flubbed some detail.

This may make it a little easier. It'll calculate tire diameter in inches based on the numbers on the tire itself.

For street use and torque you will be hard pressed to beat the Ede Performer on your 318. I had a Performer with a 600 Ede on a 318 with 340 manifolds, and could roast the tires (peg leg) down the street. Car ran really good with this intake and carb.

From my experience the small port single planes make more torque. That be why they made them, the 273 had them, and marine engines run them. The highest HP and TQ 318's ran them too, in a 2bbl version.

I'm interested in the difference, but I don't have a performer and I do have Streetmaster, on the car. As the difference in performance seems to be in the eye of the beholder I'm keepin' it for now... (I still can't help but wonder hahaha)

It's been pretty well recieved in the ricer and Euro car market as being very accurate...

That was an 8 3/4 with the stock 273 or 293 gear. 205/70-14" tires.

Depends what you want to do. From your org post,it sounds like you just want a fun little street 318 car. The performer intake is a proven intake for the 318,and plentiful.
 
small runner single plane are like a lil both worlds=torque/rpm.

While dual planes focus on torque and are rpm limted for all out power, though some with larger plenum and runner volume can still make power in the upper r's just not as much or in the same rpm band as a single, but in the end neither does the small runner single.jmo

In conclusion which has your personal preference for a fun little street machine?

Where does the performer top out? I just can't decide. I'll keep runnin the Streetmaster for now 'cause it's on, winters comin' and I've yet to find a deal on a performer if and when I do I will snatch it up just to see when I have some spare time if there's a difference.

Topped out @6100rpm on a 318 w/340 cam+4* w/140psi cyl pressure and stock 67 closed chamber 318 truck heads and headers in 4 spd 3.73 geared valiant.
It would just shut off @6100, plenty or rpm really, and what the cam was good for.

If you have an automatic, I would consider the performer over the streetmaster, but thats just me.

The Streetmaster 318 is an Edelbrock intake...
 
If you need a little more RPM and have the room, why not just add a carb spacer?
 
I like the streetmaster, always been curious how much material was in one. I'm not a good porter but I opened one up and am going to try it on a mild 318 soon.

i wanna know why a 318 prefers a single plane?, even though i am running a holley street dominator on one with a 1 in. open spacer. my butt says it ran better with an ld340.

Since this has been resurrected, I will say this regarding the older single plane intakes. I would use the Holley Street Dominator WAY before the Street Master. Just look at the plenum difference. The Street Dominator has almost twice the plenum volume. This will help add to bottom end torque tremendously. That's why they worked so well.
 
Here is a shot of the Street Dominator plenum for comparison. You can see there really is no comparison.

That's not to say the Streetmaster is a dud, but it's certainly not the better of the two, IMO.

They don't necessarily do. In fact nearly all the time they work better with a dual plane intake. Most single plane intakes favor upper rpm's and less torque due to their large open plenum. The streetmaster is the exception to the rule because of it's very small plenum. It also had small runners. Combine the two and it worked good on a small engine that wasn't prone to making a lot of torque yet it also opened up the top end power some. The street dominator was the next step up with a larger open plenum, but still much smaller than most single plane plenum intakes and it also had small runners which increase velocity. In your case you made a mistake by installing a 1" spacer. By doing that you increased plenum volume a lot which is contradictory to what most 318's respond to, unless their a high compression big cammed engine with a high stall converter and/or low rearend gears. My suggestion is to remove the spacer and see what it does.
 
Is it worth it to remove the street master and get a street dominator?
I've already got the street master on there. And it seems to do ok. My carb set up is crazy but I'm going to a Holley 600 for my 318.

Otherwise it's a stock 1976 318.
I was looking for fuel economy.....it has a points distributor and stock everything else. I'd like to get over 20mpg in my 69 dart.

heres a street domanator with divided pendulum and a duntov tunnel im hoping runs good on a roller cam 318 on some home ported 302s,..how much differnt is there between streetmaster and street domanator?
