Okay I crashed the dart into a telephone pole after I lost all braking. So I took the entire car apart and I have the engine pulled looking to make more power. I recently bought a COMP CAMS KIT I’ll post a picture below of the specs. Im just wondering what 390 stroker kit is best for my 318 with this cam setup.

I’d look here. No need for the forged crank and piston kits if you never intend on maybe building for higher power at a later date. But if you think you will then yes, go all forged. Cast crank and hypereutectic pistons (or forged if that’s all they offer) will do with that cam but........what heads are you going to use?? Headers I assume?

umm... i hope you have a manual transmission or some stall in your converter. and gears. you're gonna need gears, too.

and get your brakes sorted.

Do you mean in compression and valve clearance and or strength ?

You will definitely need a good set of head
to get maximum benefit from that increase
in displacement!

I’m using headers yes but I’m not sure on the heads don’t even know where to start.

Only things I will say, this is IMO, don’t fixate on that cam at the moment. Figure out your power goals, the reciprocating assembly, what heads you will use. Go from there. You’re in the right place with a bunch of great knowledge willing to help here

I agree. If your so worried about he cam kit, don’t be. Or sell it.

Decide on the power goals or a ET for the track. That cam is almost perfect for a street stroker and bowl blended 2.02 stock heads. You’ll make a lot of torque and have reasonable HP.

The LSA of 107 is 1* off of the 106 I calculate. It won’t be a noticeable difference changing cams. I’d run it on the 390 mill with bowl ported 2.02 heads and have a blast with it leaving twin tire burn out marks everywhere. 3.55 gear minimum.

I've never seen anybody build an engine around a cam, but that doesn't mean it can't be done...

What I don't get is why which 390 kit, they all make 390 cid, that's why I asked him below comment.

His above question is weird, what is he really asking?

I always build an engine from the top down, that's where the power is.
The block is only the foundation.
A foundation without a decent top end is limited on power. specifically heads, depending on stroke and bore.

I think should start with what compromises and limits your gonna straddle yourself with 1st, like gear and stall, a lot will with 3.23/3.55 where ideal powerband is already partially chosen for you then if not flexible on cid too and build in ideal powerband, power is also been partially chosen for you too etc..

To me gears and displacement are opposite sides of the same coin, make one bigger the other got be smaller for same power/performance.

Please explain that, gears and displacement

I always build my car from the back forward and from the block up...

Is that supposed to make sense...?..
Sorry I forget words, put them in wrong places, put like can instead of can't all the time, have to reread them like 20+ times and keep making corrections even days later.

I fixed it.

I got a new phone and the voice command is terrible..

Is the Comp cam a roller? If not, throw it in the trash or send it back.

Just wondering if the group has a preference on a stroker kit. I don’t want to buy something that’s not going to last.
