The only problem with electricity on the fence is out in the plains the grass is tall and dry. One issue and there is a fire. Hell the grass out here in the flats will rub against itself and start a fire. Happens every year. Sparks probably aren't the best idea.

Best thing I ever did was installing 5’ chain link fence around 3 of my 10 acres keeps out nosey people and jahomo witnesses.
Razor wire. Barb wire only keeps honest folks out.

A few years ago when I got my CC, they said you were allowed to "end the threat" which should take about a mags worth.... That was in Douglas county. I'm sure things have changed since I've been gone.... Sorry about that. Red CO was a better CO.
As far as protecting your property, I see a lot of people suggesting "traps" etc. Not a good idea. You will lose, all it takes is a good lawyer someone who want's your stuff bad enough.
The bottom line is there is NO such thing as a secure system. You need to utilize what's called "defense in layers".
First line: Warning signs at the property line. Be simple and unambiguous. "No Trespassing". You don't need to say why or what the consequences are.
Second line: Motion detecting flood lights. Most people will **** themselves when light suddenly pops on.
Third line: Cameras and more signs near the protected item, stating they are on camera. They aren't super expensive but you need to place them correctly and get the "right" kind for the job. If you get some, test them to make sure you can identify someone within the field of view you are protecting. Not all cameras as created equal and there are a LOT of differences. I'm not a fan of wireless cameras, but they are better than nothing. I like POE (power over ethernet) but that takes more installation effort and additional "special" equipment that will provide power to POE devices.
Fourth line: You... calling the sheriff while racking a 12g.
Not in Fl. We have a stand your ground law. My place is fenced in with 5’ chain link fence. If your inside my fence uninvited, that’s where the coroner will find you. I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

Section 776.032, Florida Statutes, is commonly referred to as the “Stand Your Ground” Law or the “Castle Doctrine.” In passing the Stand Your Ground law the legislature determined:
“that it is proper for law-abiding people to protect themselves, their families, and others from intruders and attackers without fear of prosecution or civil action for acting in defense of themselves and others.” Ch. 05–27, at 200, Laws of Fla.
Under Florida law, “[a] person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.” § 776.013(3), Fla. Stat. (2007).
Senate Bill 1052 and Changes to Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law
Senate Bill 1052 was intended to correct an apparent drafting error caused by 2014 legislation amending s. 776.013(3), F.S., a statute governing the right to self-defense in a person’s dwelling, residence, or vehicle.
The relevant provision now states: “A person who is attacked in his or her dwelling, residence, or vehicle has no duty to retreat” and has the right to use or threaten to use defensive force. As a result of the error, the statute implies that a person’s rights to self-defense do not begin until the person is physically attacked.
However, another subsection of the same statute and other statutes governing the right to use defensive force are clear—the right to use force or threaten to use force begins when a person reasonably believes that using or threatening to use force is necessary to prevent or terminate another person’s use of unlawful force.
Accord to the analysis of the proposed legislation, the bill revises s. 776.013(3), F.S., in a way that is consistent with the other statutory provisions governing the right to use defensive force.
You have to be under threat... There is no "castle doctrine". Not having to retreat doesn't mean you can blast someone for simply being on your property. I wish it were that easy sometimes, but it's not.

I don't disagree, but far too many people are willing to end a life for some stupid ****. If you are actually under threat, by all means, end said threat. Some people are just looking for an excuse to cap someone. Not saying you are, but there are people like that. If you have land, it's less likely to happen like it would go down in the city, but country kids do stupid things all the time.
First thing I was told when I lived to the country was " every house has a gun". I know not every house had a gun, but I got the message, if you're going to do something stupid, be prepared to deal with it.

Sure and one of the first thing we all learn is the stove his hot. Actions have consequences and so does ignorance.
If you don't have enough sense to keep your hand off a hit stove, or your nose out of someone else stuff, there could be dire consequences.
Ignorance of the law and not knowing how to handle yourself in a situation in which a life could be taken, is no different. Ignore the law, or think you're 12 is gonna save you just because.. and you might end yp being bubba's *****.
Believe me, I'm all for protecting my family, myself and my property, but I'd rather hold a kid on the ground waiting for the leo's than take some stupid teenagers life whom I could have otherwise helped turn around....

We are in life because we went from a penal system in the 60’s to rehabilitate system from 70’s on. If there are no consequences you can’t expect anyone to be deterred. I was watch the news couple nights ago that showed this POS that has been arrested 49 times for shop lifting and they keep releasing him. What’s to make him stop?

I'm with you on this. I would like to see people making big rocks into small rocks and also given the ability to learn something. Doens't even need to be on the tax payers dime. Lots of "skilled workers" unfortunately get into trouble. How about we give them the chance to learn/earn instructors certs by teaching others what they know. Stop making prisons a place where people are willing to get sent to in the winter. I'm from MN, that happens... it's seasonal. Make it a place once again where people so NOT want to go. That would be a good start in my opinion

Back 20 -30 years ago in NW Mo. there was a local asshole that stole livestock, he walked into any country type store around there and just picked up what he wanted and left. Did same with gas. He shot and wounded a couple of locals for no reason. This went on a couple of years all over NW Mo.and the law did nothing about it. He was in some high speed chases with local farmers several times but always got away.
Long story short, a group of of about 30 of the "upper" end farmers decided they would get him when he showed up at the local bar as he did every afternoon, right there on Main St. in this really small very rural town. I think it was a 30-30 to the head that ended it as he and his girlfriend sat in their pickup. A bag of $30,000 cash was found under the seat by the law.
I had a friend that had a fertilizer store right across the street. He said it was bad but someone had to do something. The FBI was there in force for many months trying to find out who did what. They never did.

I can't recall the name of it, probably a B movie. I never saw it, I was in that area when it all happened.
If any one had caught him in the act of his thieving, he would have been killed on a farm and not on main street.
