The Dust-Turd project.

Need to have the cage certified so the bolt in plates on the bar had to go. Added some 2x3 braces to the rocker and welded the main roll bar hoop to frame to stiffen the chassis/bar set up.

Bought a wheelie bar kit from McAmis, looks like something from IKEA. Looks like a long day of TIG welding.:(

Really? I thought all his stuff was top notch?

Not a quality issue, the ends that the wheels ride in is four flat pieces of .065 plate that have to be all welded together. I'm just whining.

More parts and slow progress............CS2 5 speed and Trick Titanium bell housing. I will be cutting the floorpan and firewall out soon. Big project for the summer:)

I am glad you ended up with the car. It would have never gotten to this level in my hands.... Will continue to see the updates...

I'm still perplexed that Lenco cannot design a single lever type shifter? I understand that it would require some engineering. With complexities. But would open up for other applications?

This CS2 is tighter and more modular. Which is a step in the right direction?

Couple of options for a single lever Lenco shifter, but I want the multi lever look. :)

CS2 is lighter and smaller than the original CS1, but still good for 2500 HP according to Lenco.

The rear trunk floor part two. Needed to make a mount for the parachute and lower the fuel cell, so we whacked the rear floor and trunk area apart again. The rear roll bar supports were just a bit off ??? and not attached properly.

Cut all that away, made some 2x2 blocks and welded them back in place and added a cross bar support.

Made an upper support and braces to mount the chute in the lower center of the rear panel.

Made some new floor panels and dropped the fuel cell 3" lower in the rear and 1" in the front.

Chute mount is removable and will pass NHRA tech now. Wheelie bars are next.

Mounted the chute release handle yesterday. Didn't want to weld the tabs on the roll bar, so I made up a mount and clamped it to the cage. Also went thru the Lenco with Jeff from Esinlin Racing and changed the ratios to 38-36-34-28 or 3.22 first, 2.33 second, 1.71 third , 1.28 forth and 1.1 fifth. When you have no HP, you need alot of gear to move it.
Had to move the shifter up one section forward so i can reach it and replaced all the rods and hiem joints/ bushings on the shifter. Set the shift pressures and it's smooth as butter.

Beautiful car Bill, nice work you're doing there. What's the ET anticipation? Not saying it needs it, but just wondering if you've considered stripes? Just sharing my thoughts here, please don't take offense, I'm a tad on the whacky side. That said, instead of black or white stripes perhaps a few shades darker, or even lighter, than the car's color, imo darker, then instead of the callouts having the cubic inch put 3 question marks the same size and font as original. Underneath the callouts you could have someone hand paint real small something like "wanna find out, line it up". Or something. Once again she's a beauty

Car has gone 10.14 at 131 mph with street tires and mufflers in the cooler weather. When I can spend 50K on a Hemi, I expect 8.0 to 7.80's

No paint on the horizon, that will be at the very end of this journey.

Timer for the lenco and much needed firewall removal. :) Out of it for a while, daughter got married, bought an old top fuel car(What was I thinking???) and bust at work but the work has begun.

Built a jig and pulled the motor and mounted Buster for some sawzall abuse.

It will take me a while to post all the progress , so bear with me. Next was to cut out the yummy factory firewall and the brilliantly installed flat steel panel overtop the same. Jeez.

Before cutting it out, I made supports for the cowl to keep the top and the door mount area secure.

Then I needed to support the bottom of the cowl and the rockers before the floor was removed.

Thankfully, the frame was on a jig and I have a sawzall.........

Cut out the section and replaced it with some new 2x3 and fish plated the joint just to be sure:).

Cut off the janky firewall supports and cleaned up the rails.

Needed to fix the shock mounts in the front and add a second support.

Cut the rear floor out back to the center of the tubs and built a frame to hold a removable top panel and the down panel. I'm a cheep *** and wanted to save the carpet on the tubs and rear panel so it took some creative use of wet rags and steel plate to weld this while it was up on the carpet.

The idea is that it will be easier to work/ adjust the rear ladder bars. The top panel will be held in by 5 dzus fasteners for easy removal. I can also lift the car up 3 feet and stand in the back and clean the rear window, something almost impossible in the past.

Now the good ****.........bought a dummy block so I can fit up a mid plate and the lenco. Motor back 3.5 inches ( to legal 1970 NHRA P/S rules) and up 1.5 inches for more better wheelies:)

I will work on it more this week and update later. Oh, and the Lenco is a magnesium cased CS-3 not a CS-2. What do I know?
