The Nationals 2017 Check-in

-
I noticed a renewed energy this year. Talk of the drag strip being bought and improved helped draw a larger crowd. They downsized the swap meet by a couple rows but the spaces were full and it seemed pretty busy. The Car Corral was packed with some nice iron. I was thinking seriously about a 65 Coronet. I had the money arranged but the wife wasn't too keen about a 3rd Mopar added to the collection. There were many more show cars too. They filled the the area almost to the gas pumps. It was busy everywhere Friday and Saturday. Like Dave mentioned, the cruise was busy too. Not as many Mopars as the Heath cruises used to have but full of energy just the same.

One of the parts vendors we talked to had a bad story that ruined his impression on the nats forever.
He's been coming there since the first year and never had a problem.
They double booked his vendor spot and while he was at his camp they towed his truck away by dragging it.
Popped the rear tires and screwed up his transmission.
He was friggin livid about it.
Super nice guy but a lot of other vendors told him what happened when he got back and noticed his truck missing with skid marks all up the lane.
Management ignored him even the guy up top he thought he knew and considered a friend.
That sucks bad.

I think this was my fourth time attending the Nats in the last 30 years but this time I got to enter it. I had a blast and was still over whelmed by everything it had to offer. I'm sure some will say it's just a typical day at the Nats but I was impressed. I got a new chrome bumpers and gas cap for the Dart. I also got a scoop, a Indy 360 magnum intake and some other parts for the duster. I know now I'm going to start saving for next year because there were so many things I wanted to buy but not enough money. In the end the wife wasn't mad at the money I spent this year.

We killed a 90's model Corvette on the way there.
The douche in the vette jumped ahead as we were merging from right lane to left and wouldn't back off to let us over.
He was being such a jerk about it he rammed forward and scuffed his door on the trailer fender that was hauling my cuda.
Cops were right up ahead so we all piled out to talk to cops.
The car owner was angry at first but he calmed down right away when I told him it's just common courtesy to let people
Merge instead of jumping forward so they cant.
His wife was a mean rattlesnake and said "we weren't backing off." And was really accusatory and nasty.
I said "Well that's why you damaged your corvette."
The guy told me "I've owned this car since new and I've never had an accident."
I said "well your actions you took today made that possible."
All you had to do is do the same thing 99.999% of Mopar owners would have done if you we're trailering a corvette."
I told him "it's just common courtesy to let people merge but your actions showed your true colors and you should think about how you treat other motorists.
In all honesty as nasty as his wife was I'll bet a million bucks she told him "eff them....don't you dare back off."

Lol A little courtesy goes a long way. Everybody should drive a truck or a truck-trailer for a while. It's a whole different ball game. They don't have blazing acceleration, handle likke a drifter, or stop on a dime.
I stopped by your car a couple times. You must have been busy. That's such a cool car you have. I started here on FABO when you started building it I remember when you posted photos when you first got a painted. Sorry to miss meetimg you. Maybe next time.

I've been going every year since 1983 except for the couple years it moved to Indy. The weather was good and I'd say it was the best spectator attendance in quite a while. I checked in with Hemi Denny first then moved onto the car corral and swap meet. I got hungry so went back to the big white tent but all the brats were gone. Finished cruising the swap and for the first time in my entire life, didn't buy a single thing at a swap meet. I already have way too many parts I need to put on two cars and need to make some progress before buying more junk. I noticed subtle improvements at the facility and have heard nothing but good things about the new owners so it should get even better. Under NHRA ownership that place really deteriorated.

Went to Carlisle this year and each event has it's positives. Two distinct vibes. FCA didn't seem to have a presence again this year though there was a new black Demon kind of tucked away without any signs, ropage or anything, just a car. Didn't bother with the cruises this year because it just isn't the same. Brice Rd in its prime was the best. So I got home at 9:30 instead of after midnight.
See you next year. Woodward Dream Cruise is this weekend and I'll be there in the Vert.

Had great time. Show was good. Bought some stuff for the Barracuda. We went down to Buckeye Lake (just before it) and watch the cruise on the side of the road. I thought it was awesome. We were talking to the police, they are very cool with it just trying to keep everybody safe. Cars doing burnouts right next to them. They just wanted everybody (spectators) to stay off the road. They close it down around 11:00. I just do not think a lot of people know about it. The one Bad thing is they close it down to one lane on each side so traffic was backed up for a while.
well i enjoyed myself burning down those 67 blue dart cwow i had fun

Yeah we were all over the grounds and I didn't spend much time at all near the car although when I got back at the end of the day it seems like a few more A body Barracudas congregated there....haha.
Car started acting up Saturday night and noticed I have a ground issue affecting my ignition so I'm gonna check all
My connections.
It's a miracle we made it back to Georgia because my buddy called
Me the next day and said his truck has three major problems.....his water pump is leaking from the weep hole, his fuel pump is totally dead and his belt tensioner assembly damn near came apart but the truck did not give us one hiccup the entire time up And back.
