I spent lots of days and nights here in DC on set for the movie shooting of The Post. Living close to DC has perks and one is getting calls to have time period cars for movies. I was asked if they could use my 64 Barracuda, 64 Valiant convertible and 65 Valiant sedan during shooting in DC. One problem was, since they wanted to shoot dawn shots for when the Washington Post was being delivered to the news stands, they wanted us on set at 5pm so they could have correct lighting during dusk then we would stay till morning so they could shoot more at dawn. Thankfully they paid by the hour and a typical day was 5pm-8am. All of our filming was in August and we also spent 1 weekend at Katherine Grahams house in Georgetown. My wife was used as an actress on set and we (wife, son and myself) were also used as drivers during filming. Haven't seen the movie yet but I did get to see that my Barracuda is in the trailer so looks promising. Here are some pictures from shoot.

I was at another shoot right before Christmas. It's about Dick Cheney's rise to power and Christian Bale plays Cheney and Amy Adams plays his wife. Here is a couple of shots of my Barracuda waiting for a guest in front of the Mayflower hotel in DC and extras milling around between shots.

Pretty cool stuff right there.

Next time they call you, tell them you know a guy with a 69 Fury Convertible available. .....

I have a guy in the movies that wants to use my 69 dart in movies, commercials...

Nice. Sounds like a good arrangement. A neighbor (who had a mid'60s Galaxie at the time) got me in touch with a film being shot in the Pheonixville area (maybe a reshoot of The Blob). When push came to shove, the coordinator wanted us to leave the cars and there were other details that killed my willingness to participate.

Very cool!

Back in the 80s, me and my '70 Duster were in The Hooters music video of "And we danced" filmed at the Exton drive-in. You can't really see the car in any of the shots except way in the background of the cars lined up to get in and the one where all the cars headlights were flashing (I can only tell its mine because I knew where I was in the field).

I spent Memorial day weekend in front of the White House with my 65 a couple years back while HBO was shooting Mohamed Ali's Greatest Fight. Only made the cutting room floor but I still get paid.

That is cool. Curious to what they pay per hour for your car(s). No offense if you don't wish to divulge.

Flat price for the car, anywhere between $200-$350 per day. Depends on the production company.
Nice cars, but what always blows it for me when movies use classic cars is how clean and shiny the cars are,, ruins the realism they are trying to get,,, just saying.

My unwashed red '92 Jeep Cherokee ended up in a Pacifico Beer commercial (between seconds 2 and 3) on the lower left of the screen for just a millisecond. We just happened to be at a beach in Baja California Sur that day when the film crew showed up, didn't get paid (didn't even know what the film crew was doing until months later).

I just now had to log in to youtube before I could review the commercial because a message popped up that it may be inappropriate for some age groups.

Usually they are adamant about making sure you do NOT wash your car. The shoot I was on before Christmas they actually covered my car with something (washed right off) to make it even dirtier. Now my cars are not show cars, far from it (rusty 1/4's and dents) but they do like using the more blemished cars. I've seen people show up with red colored cars and they get axed immediately. Too flashy and they stand out, something they don't want in the background. Another thing is they usually don't want you too many days for shooting, can't keep having the same cars in every scene. It's funny that now that I've gotten involved with this I'm always looking at the background cars. In the show "The Deuce" by HBO, I kept seeing the same white 65 Barracuda and yellow 68 Cougar. Those 2 cars were in almost all the scenes at first.

That story is so freaking cool. You lucky guy. I lived through the story at the time and can't wait to see the movie.
The cars are beautiful, thanks for sharing!
