BULLSHIT, a little factoids for ya

Musk nor Tesla has ever earned a DIME profit. They are heavily subsidized by the gobt and get their money from stupid investors.

My favorite argument is "up here" which is FAR from the coldest area of the country, but it does get fairly cool up here, and hot enough in the spring summer that most anybody wants AC in their vehicles.

So you trapse out to the frozen Tesla when it's anywhere say, -15F to 32 F and DARK and there's SNOW on the ground which takes a lot more power, and you drive to work and (in my old days) this could be a ways, NOW it's still about 7 miles. You need the radio, lights, heater, defroster. REALLY?

Now let's scale that up into a large freight hauler

REALLY? Are you freekin serious?

As they pointed out at the end of the article, "the UPS pre-order represents a $2,500,000 immediate influx of cash for Tesla".

Makes perfect sense for UPS and PepsiCo to invest in these. They have a large fleets and these will be highly useful in certain territories. It helps them meet their corporate goals and enables Tesla to continue developing more kinds of service vehicles that will be embraced across multiple business sectors.

They aren't intended to replace every service vehicle everywhere...yet.

LOL!!
Does $2.5 mil represent a profit in the company? Nope.
225 trucks are the "real deal"? No, there are ~ 15.5 Million transport & delivery trucks out there, that's real. And that's just the U.S......
It's a PR stunt pure & simple, They've already figured out how much they will gain vs. lose, and that's about all They're willing to pay to have the Good Greenie cred.
Nobody was talking about Fedex, CocaCola, or whomever in the envirowacko circles today, but bunches of them just can't wait to choose their shipping accordingly, or
choke down another bottle of carbonated rot-gut diabetes inducing beverages all for the team!!

$2.5 million is the deposit. The balance due on delivery is about $30 million.

I’m not a Tesla motors fan by any means, however...I believe the batteries are heated and cooled to maintain optimal temp, even when theyre not loaded. The heater/defrost would be almost instant hot. There isn’t any full-time engine driven accessories like every combustion engine has. Everything is on-demand.

But any electric vehicle is limited to recharge station availability, scarce and expensive maintenance costs, exclusivity, unproven reliability, etc. And it still runs on coal.

I’m my opinion, a Tesla is just a doctor killer. Just like the Beechcraft Bonanza (killed Buddy Holley, Ritchie V?? And multiple others) Expensive, high performance, and much different to drive than a conventional car (Richard Hammond from Top Gear blamed a lack farmiliarity with the steering and torque vectoring system of the electric vehicle, also, a lack of engine noise to “feel” the car)

Well you don't have to like it but get used to it. I have studied it and it takes a while to invent new technology and bring it to profitability. It will happen without question.

I will believe it when I see it SUCCEED.

...and I hope it does.

I’ll believe it when they make an electric, multi passenger aircraft.

How America’s electrical grid will handle an all electric pipedream is beyond me. I don’t think the above/below ground wiring will handle it.

I hope it succeeds. Imagine calling up a self driving car for your elderly loved ones for their appointments. Less traffic congestion, pollution, accidents.

How they mine for lithium and cobalt is a major, unspoken concern tho.

Well, the said he couldn't pull off SpaceX and he just sent a recycled rocket and capsule to the ISS with 5000#s of freight and brought the rocket back to a safe landing and will bring the capsule back for a safe landing and re-use.
Watch for after the first of the year when he sends his personal Tesla roadster to mars.

Well folks are all worried about charging a few oversized golf carts on our power grid.
But the real worry of the people who think about these things is the power consumption of the digital currencies (see Bitcoin and its relatives) being
the biggest power user and threat to our power grid to come down the pike.
Be interesting to see how that plays out. I have no dog in the fight, I'm too poor for Bitcoin or a Tesla car.

I believe he'll do it, or cause it to be done. All of it, - All the way to Mars.. He is the visionary of your time.
I believe all this will be the real deal in my lifetime. All political issues aside, this guy came here with nothing and has done nothing but innovate and create since he has been here.
Innovation seldom makes money at first but when debugged and accepted it makes society better and the innovator gets paid as he should.
My favorite thing about is that everything for SpaceX, Tesla and SolarCity is and will be US designed and built on American soil. I'm liking that!!!

As I understand it, all of his elec car tech is free and available to any that want it. Many of the big guys have access to, and use it. I invest in the stock market,. He and Tesla have been on my radar a long time. If you want a tip on the elec car angle, look at ALB. Big Lithium producer, some of my money is there, cuz of Tesla. Lol

A few? The goal of every business is market domination. You can’t charge this on 110v effectively. You need a 50 amp 220 outlet. Your solar panel would be dedicated to just charging the car. In attempt to revamp American energy into solar, Musk tried to convince us by saying that we have a “giant nuclear reactor in the sky.” Well that is true, however, its energy is diluted by distance, clouds/dust particles, and the sun is only visable 1/2 the year. Pretty innefficient reactor. I’d love to have a single solar panel connected to a small air conditioner in the summer, mini heater in the winter tho. Price is the problem. IMO, solarcity is a scam that feeds off fear driven environmentalists and banks on tax subsidizes. Solar price will come down with future tech, it’s just not there yet.

SpaceX is pretty cool and very impressive, but how will it make money? Maybe their future will be in weapons. They’re burning cash fast and with all their side projects, hard to say which one will be shitcanned first and which innovations will they have to trim fat off of and use cheaper tech on to recoup loss and provide a more affordable product.

Thats about 20 Tesla 'S's. Chump change. Pepsi has hybrid trucks here in Long Beach, but I think the batteries are just for the reefer when stopped.

Just to be clear. "Solar City" was a failing US company near bankrupcy. Tesla just saved all those panels from going to a scrapper, or worse..

As far as power source , we in B.C. are
building
a huge hydro elec project, supposedly to compress Nat gas.lol. But now that power will go to charge all those cars.

And the US will prob get the power at half price, like oil.. lol. Progress.

I dont think Mazda has ever turned a profit either....sort of a revenue neutral venture.

I've been in the car biz for 30 years.
Tesla has already made it! Every customer I talk to knows what a Tesla is... Even the old ladies... They took more deposits for the Model 3 than Acura and Infinty sold last year combined. Even if 1/2 of them back out.
And the trucks will sell... Just the cost savings of fuel and engine maintenance alone will make them cost effective .

BTW.... Tesla market value as of right now is $60,000,000,000 !
Cha...ching!
He doesnt have to turn a profit. He can just sell it.

Tesla motors has been over-promising and under-delivering for a while tho. Their high popularity is from fear based climate change and constant media hype from environmentalists. Most put down deposits for new cars that won’t be delivered for years. Now they’re wanting full payments for cars that haven’t been built because they are lacking funds.

They’re gonna need more than $60B to colonize mars when theyre already spending $1B every 4 months.

I like Musks’ ideas, there is always pros and cons. Musk seems like the perfect modern tech madman. I’m glad he’s on our side. They also have to compete with big3 auto and foreign auto that are moving toward electric as well, and they can probably make them a whole lot cheaper and actually deliver. Unfortunately at the moment a Tesla vehicle is a novelty, a fad, and damn near unobtainable.

I wouldnt say unobtainable.... I am in little Boise Idaho and I see them all the time. My neighbor has an S model.
It seems to be the cool factor that has everyones attention. Image and market appeal are everything in this business. I cant speak for his other ventures.

The big 3 can't compete with Tesla in the electric car development and no way can do it cheaper. If they could they would already be doing it. They don't want to and are being drug into it kicking and screaming.
Most of the best and brightest college graduates want to work for Tesla/SpaceX/SolarCity. They don't want to go to the stogy establishment
status quo business, no excitement in that. But underperformance gets you fired quick at any Musk driven business. I don't know about Tesla popularity but I do see them around,
especially in the Seattle/California area. I wouldn't buy one myself, but I would buy a new mid-engine Corvette:)
