Thinking about installing a tilt column in my 73 Scamp. Having a Kustom shop helps but was wondering if any of you have done this and what kind/ brand of column you used. Appreciate the input.

I will be using an early 80’s M Body tilt column in my 65 Dart. Will also being using a combination of the M Body and Dart harness to make the ignition switch snd turn signal switch on the column function

Please. Start a thread when you do this.

I used a Flaming river drop in for a B-Body. Fell right in other than shortening the D Shaft. Do not use a cheap aftermarket tilts like Helix or anything like that. Stick to OEM, Ididit or Flaming River.

I bought a 28 inch long one off ebay. It just barely comes through the firewall. I did this because I am putting a magnum , complete with factory f.i. in it. I am also going to try to use the drivers side magnum exhaust manifold. Using the short column may have helped. Most of the columns are chevy based turn signal switches. I just cut the turn signal harness from my stock dodge wiring and connected to a gm rectangular plug that I got from a junk yard. Instant adapter harness.

Even the mopars with factory tilt used GM columns if I remember correctly, so realistically any aftermarket gm style column should be pretty straightforward to retrofit

+1 for Flaming River. Put one on my 70 Duster. Got the little wiring kit that let me plug into the OE harness so that was painless. Only downside I had was the OE steering wheel I had would not fit as the new column is not keyed with the notch for Mopar wheels. Had to go to tuff, which was not as nice as my OE style wheel. Sure did like how I could tilt the column up though!

Edit: I did have to shim the column bracket downward about 1/4" because the new column uses a long rod to a switch and the switch was binding. Moving it down a little resolved that issue.

Thank you everyone for the answers. I figured it would be a GM style replacement that won overall. Have installed these before on other projects but never on a Mopar. Wasn't sure if there was a different option that I wasn't seeing. I'm running factory a/c and power steering on my Scamp and would probably prefer the shorter column with the u-joints to get to the box to make room for possible engine upgrades down the road.

If you do it please post it. I would try and get the right length where you could use the smaller steering joint if possible, for better clearances. JMO
I too have PS so I'll be watching when you do it.
