I was disappointed to see my 650DP was leaking from a pin/shafts just above the mounting flange and would not idle when I fired it up after sitting for about a month. It was fine last time I parked it.

So, I'm thinking I may just go ahead and replace it, with the idea of possibly getting a little better fuel economy from a new unit. That DP really sucked the gas when I romped on it. I may also go with a 904 trans at some point, just to try out the auto trans in it, still undecided. Nothing radical on the engine basically stock, what you see on my sig, plan to stay that way.

Considering all that, what carb would you run on this engine?

ace you probley know this but i'll give my 2 cents worth what your plugs look like black white, grey i'd go from there on cfm i think you'd get better m.p.g with the 750 eldebrock then buy the trick kit to tune it for your motor, but when a holleys right they got more umph to em then again if yours runs good and just leaks i think you can replace the shaft to fix leak

Proform makes nice billet base plates that will fix the problem for under a $100. I put one of those on my Vac Sec carb to fix the same problem and it's a really nice piece.

Hadn't heard about the Proform thing, maybe look into that if it saves me alot of $$ and solves the problem quick 'n easy - thanks!

It was running really good before, plugs nice color, no other issues. I really liked the way it runs with that Holley. But geez, with the fuel prices these days, sometimes I have to think twice if I really need to take it out for no reason except to cruise. Then again, a different carb might net me what, a 1 or 2 mpg gain? Worth it? dunno...

You couldn't pay me to run any Edelbrock carb on my motor....I tried on of them when i first built the motor and I spent all kinds of money on their stupid calibration kits, jets, metering rods and springs and could never get rid of the bog I had.....I bought a used Holley for $10 off a buddy and slapped it on there and the car never ran so good. I picked up 2 tenths in the quarter with that swap as well. If the motor is basically stock then and Edelbrock car will probably do fine but for anything else Holley is the way to go.

Just put a 670 Holley Street Avenger on my 360 to replace the 600 Holley i had been using. It was truely a drop it on and go exercise. My gas mileage jumped from 15 to 17.5. The car runs as well on the top end as it did with the 750 3310 Holley i was messing with and has just as good throttle response on the bottomend as the 600. Interesting feature of this carb is the primary venturis are smaller than the secondaries even though the throttle blades are all the same size.

I contemplated and Edlebrock but I have been using Holleys for years and feel comfortable with them and didn't want to have to mess with new linkage set up making the move to an Edelbrock. Plus you can gets parts everywhere.

Rochester, Carter/Edelbrock and Holley have all proven themselves as solid products.

You might try and find a nice 800 or 850 cfm TQ if you want better gas mileage with good performance. If you're not familiar working on them someone like Demonsizzler could set one up for your car.

I run an 850cfm TQ that I bought off Ebay on my mildly built 340-4psd and fine tuned it alittle more for my liking and it runs great.

Proform - Bad Chinese copy of a Holley HP
Eddy- Mid range lean out, no flow, no power, antiquated design

If I used a Windshield Washer motor, painted it purple with dual hoses and a heater fan, took a picture, put it in a glossy catalog and called it a "Fuel Injected Blower System" would you buy it?

Bolt on a 650 Mighty Demon (Now available as a Vac Secondary) Best carb for the money on the market. It'll run flawlessy and give you years of service.

From you, yea, probably. Because your nut enuff to figure out how to make it work. Of course the size would be just perfect for the lawn tractor. ;)

I agree. Although I'm still a AVS fan. Those rods are a pain in the .........to get just right.

I modeled my 318 build-up from the "Dirt Cheap" story in Engine Masters. I'm running the same parts except for Eagle I-beams.340 Eagle crank and I went with Indy Edelbrock heads with a stge2 port job. A727 transgo #2 with 8 3/4
3.55:1 rear. The cam is the same as in the article, Comp Cam 525 lift/ 231deg. @.050. The car is mainly for street. Any suggestions for CFM rating?:read2:
