Just got my new front rims for the barracuda and looking for ideas of which tire to run. I would like it to be between 26-27" tall. What are you running?

You don't have many choices. If you have a 67 Barracuda, I would recommend staying at or under 26".

185-75R15 (25.9" Tall)
195-75R15 (26.5" Tall)

195-70R15 (25.7" Tall, This would be my choice.)
205-70R15 (26.3" Tall)

205/70/15 or 205/75/15 cant remember which but they look good with a 275/60/15 or bigger rear. They are on a Ford at the moment.....

145r15 on mine........obviously not a barracuda but posted them anyway...

That looks good on paper but they are 99.9% never as big as advertised or calculated. 185-195s are for VWs anyway....

25" is the standard so 26 and 27 inch high tires will effect the rear end gear and raise the ratio which is lowering the number. What gears will you be running and which transmission, these will help you decide what exactly your speed will be at what RPM.

I know I don't explain everything perfectly but I do know gearing. I run 3:55 with 245/60/14 rear tires ( 25.57" ) so @ 3000 rpm, I am traveling 63 mph..

Do you have a 67-69 Barracuda?

When you start getting near or over 26" you run the risk of catching the front fender.

He is dealing with a 4" wide wheel.

A 185-75R15 or 195-75R15 are the only options guaranteed to work without issue, given the information provided.

Nope but I have ran factory 15x4s with a 205/15 on my Dart and not only did I have miles of clearance, they look RIGHT with a decent rear tire. The 15x4s dont stick out enough to worry IMO. How tall of a tire do you think SS/AA car ran with a 15x4? Dont be scared.....

Like you said, your Dart.

I didn't see him mention that his car was an SS/AA car. Did he provide more information that I can't see?

Sorry that you don't like my responsible recommendations.

I picked up a 67 notchback that is getting the following;
front disk brake swap
s/s leaf springs relocated in to the frame
mini tubbed
8 3/4 with a sure grip and 3.91 gears
15x10 rims with 315/60/15 drag radials
15x4 rims with ???
and finally new paint

Should be complete in 2-3 weeks, and I'll post picture than.

Nothing personal I might have had to much caffeine:angel9: Your recommendations would have without any doubt fit.

Hey '67, My 71 Dart I showed you has 205/75/15's on an after market rim. And unless I jack the T-bars up, I rub the front when I turn. So those are going bye-bye.
I'm gonna go to a 195/75/15, and those I can only find at Discount Tire.

BTW, I'm looking to sell the 15x4 Summit Sport Stars and 205/75/15's
less than 100 miles on them.

I have been looking for 195/75/15 and can't them anywhere. I look online at discount tire, but no luck. I will have to ask if they can order them. Who did you find that made them and what do they cost?

Hey guys,
Just for reference, I'm pretty sure the stock D78-14 measure right at 26" diameter.(as recently measured on a friends '71 Scamp)

If its for street, I would keep it around 26. I have a Demon that is drag only, hope to run Stock class in a year or so. It's set up with 29.5 x 9 slicks and 28 in tall MT front runners on 15 x 4 rims. It looks great, and reacts great, but is too close for street use.

I'm looking at running a 4" wheel up front too and was trying to figure out what size tire I'd need. Found several other cars on the net using 165/80/15, but you guys are talking about 205's and 195's. Would I be better off with these for street/strip use? I also wondered about the speed ratings. The 165/80/15 I was looking at had a "T" rating I believe which was good to 118 mph. I should be doing well over that at the end of the track. Would this be ok since it will only be for a second or two over the speed rating of the tire?
