I got a 71 sharktooth grille, and the condition is about a 6.5, and i am wondering if it pays to repaint it, or is there a company out there that will restore it for me? If so, are they exspensive?
It has no missing peices, but just a couple of hairline fractures

if i do restore it myself, where do i get the correct paint for this grille? And last question is, didn't some of the grilles come all grey, without the black on the little fins?

It's only about $12 in spray paint and tape to restore one of these.

If you can find a place that would do it for you it would probably cost a couple hundred and they would use about $12 in spray paint and tape with the rest being labor. lol

i am wondering if it would still look good all silver, and where to get what paint.lol

I have heard of guys using the argent silver paint that most use to restore there mopar wheels.

I would not pay to have it restored,as someone else had said....it will cost alot of money for practically the same job you can do at home.

if it where ,me personally.....I would....goudge out any of the cracks, front and back until they were in the shape of a " V " ....I would then find some old plastic laying around, (preferably some old black plastic like what a tv remote controll or something is made of......not like pop bottle plastic).

I would then take a lighter and melt the plastic into the " V " shaped groves I cut where any cracks where found.

then I would take a razor blade and trim and gobs of plastic off, then I would sand the plastic smooth.

then basically treat it like any other paint job....you may want to primer it,then paint it all in the silver, then mask of the finned sections and spray those seperate in a semi gloss or a satin black.

It could be made to look brand new again with about $20.00 (if that) and about a days worth of work taking your time.

and the end product is a grille someone would pay a good $500.00 for easy enough or a great looking show worthy grille for your own ride.

I say go for restoring it and take pictures to show us lol:cheers:

i did just buy a solder gun at a yard sale a few weeks ago, and i did V it out, and then used the plastic that i gouged out, and spread it around to refill the v shape. i will snap some pis in a minute

I gotta guess that your grill is painted from the factory. I have one that looked like they had some sort of comb like mask to spray the black fins. In any case it looks to be in pretty good condition.

For the gray/silver paint, I used Rustoleum's plastic paint in the "textured nickel" color. It looks great, kind of metallic like the original, and the texture can hide small imperfections. Get yourself a can and try it on a scrap piece, I think you'll like it.

lket me first say that i hate the black fins, so i decided not to redo the black, yet do it like the one pictured above. it is done, all fixed the proper way, and now really looks like new. it will be in my car tommorow

here is a few pics of finished product

I think it looks good with silver fins

yea, thanks to all for the advice, and it only took like 3 hrs to do. it is very nerve-racking to do it, cause i thought i was going to destroy it. but now it will look good in my 4 speed.....................well, now i just ran all the fender codes for this 71 340 duster that it came out of, and now i should just leave it in the car it came with, cause it has alot of options, and rare colors

i did not mind doing the black, but i preffered it like this. not a fan of the flack fins . i guess to each his own.lol

Yes...I agree...you should leave it in the car it came out of. You don't even realize what you have there do you?....
Out of curiousity, What were you going to put that grille into??

I say....put it in your driver....for now.......work on restoring the rare option duster, when it gets closer to done....swap the grille back into it.

If it has as many rare options as you say than it really should be worth restoring and you could see some great profit numbers out of it.....not to mention, one more mopar back to its original glory
