torque boxes

Does my 71 Demon 340 have them and how do I recognize them?

The boxes came on Hemis, 4-speeds, and convertables. Not sure of what years they started or stopped, they were welded to the frame behind the front tires, and to the front leaf spring hangers in the rear. I think you will find alot of variables here. I have a real 69 1/2 Roadrunner, 4 speed dana, 60 with no boxes. i have a 69 Dart swinger 340 with no boxes. I have a 70 Dart swinger 340 4-speed that only had 3 of the 4 boxes, and no support plates welded to the floor for the bucket seats to keep the floor from cracking. The factory guys must have gone to lunch and never came back to finish. I added the 4th box and the bucket seat supports.

do all 70 340 dusters have the factory torque boxes ?
Frame boxes or torque boxes as most people refer to them is the area of the floor pan where the leaf springs are bolted to the unibody at the front. if you were going to remove the front nuts of your leaf springs you would have to go through an opening in the "box" to remove those nuts. All convertibles from around 1962 and hemi cars should have them. I say should because I have seen One or two without in my travels. Here is the ones that should have them, a body wise. Most 1969 to 72 340 4 speed a bodies should have them, auto's will not.
1962 or 1963 to 69 any convertible any engine size.
67 383 a body will/should have them
68 383 will/ should have them
69 383/440 will/should have them

No need to do B bodies or e bodies here.

Now the disclaimer: Some cars that should have them, didn't get them and vice verse.
I put 72's in this list because my 1972 340 4 speed duster has them but auto cars, such as Dmoore's survivor 72 Duster 340 does not.

Chrysler was badly affected by bean counters cutting costs, and pissed off union workers on strike. It's no wonder quality was poor.

My 73 340 4 spd Duster does.
74 318 auto Dart Sport does not.

Old thread but here goes.
So is it safe to say that a 70 Duster 340 car with torque boxes was born with a 4 speed? I say this because I am looking to buy a car which I am not 100% certain if it is a factory 4 speed car but it does have torque boxes which appear original. My understanding is that auto and 4 speed firewalls are identical and duster floors were factory cut on 4 speeds. Thanks
