My dad's 68 barracuda convertible needs a new torque converter. I have sent the following to ACC and Dynamic to get their recommendations for a new converter. I feel that there are several on here with pretty close to the same set up as this car has and was wonder what you guys are using (brand, model, stall, etc) and how you like it.

Read a bunch on here and it looks like the masses are using either ACC "Boss Hog" or Dynamic so that is what I am looking at.... should I look at others?

Anyhow, here is what I have and what I sent to each. Any help, comments, advice would be really appreciated.....

Hello,
I have a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda that I need a new torque converter for. I am going to provide you the specs on my car below and I would like to know which of your products you would recommend. The car is a STREET car. I would like to achieve getting the car into the power band and having good idle characteristics. The current converter is an mp 166K that is broken. Even as new, it did not provide enough stall. Could not tell much over the stock converter. I have heard some really good things about your converter at www.forabodiesonly.com . Thanks in advance for your help.

Car: 1968 Plymouth Barracuda
Weight: approx. 3350 lbs with driver and fuel
Transmission: 904 non lock up with B&M shift kit
Engine: 340 + .030, 10.25 CR
Heads: Stock Iron X heads, 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust. NO porting, good valve job.
Intake: Edlebrock Performer RPM
Carb: Edlebrock 750 with vac. Secondaries
Cam: Comp Cams XE268 hydraulic
Tire height: 26.1”
Gear Ratio: 3.55:1
Exhaust: Headers with 2.5” full dual exhaust
Approximate weight of car: 3350 lbs with gas and driver
Ignition: FBO Electronic
Timing: 32 deg.

Other info: The motor is externally balanced but I am using a weighted B&M flex plate so that my converter can be neutral balance.

Please let me know which of your products you recommend and the cost! If you need more information, please let me know.

I've been researching converters for a while now as my car needs one pretty bad. What I've gathered is, "you get what you pay for" of course. I looked at the ACC boss hog for a while then talked to a few people about it. One guy was happy the other guys said it's a fine converter if you want to buy another one in two years, not good for me. I looked at BTE they seem alright, Neil Chance does good quality converters. I've heard A LOT of good and bad about TCI and when there's bad they apparently do a poor job of dealing with it. The converter I've chosen is a Coan 10" 3000-3500 stall part no. 40312, give them a call and talk to Craig, he's a Mopar guy and is very knowlegable the number is 765-456-3957. Don't be afraid to ask him about other companies. Of all the people I know with Coan converters none of them have had problems, some switched from other converter companies. Make sure you take into account your altitude above sea level, it affects stall speed. I'm sure others will agree and disagree with what I've said but give Coan a shot they make a lot of high quality converters for anything from a street cruiser to a full on dragster. Good Luck

Give Ultimate converters a call 203-874-2100 Lenny is the best in the business and will build/sell you exactely what you need, and at a good price for the high quality you receive..

I've installed a Hughes converter (out of Arizona), price was good-bang-for-the-buck and they were willing to cheerfully talk with me on the phone. Car is almost ready to run, can't give you any feedback at this time.

I've bought several converters from Lenny over the years. Never been disappointed. You won't be either.
