restarted with number lock off and it seems to be back to normal EXCEPT when I press backspace I get this* Also, when I press the #5, it acts like the spacebar. I just 5turned 5number 5lock 5back 5on 5and 5here 5is 5what 5I 5get. 5LOL
 
Could'a been a lot worse (*), (*), (*), (*), (*), (*).....................butt hole, butt hole, butt hole....
 
Well, I don't know what the damn thing's doin. with the two things Bruce recommended, it's almost back to normal. still a quirk with the backspace. It types one astric and then backs up and deletes it. LOL. but at least the 5s have stopped. Thanks yall. I do appreciate it.
 
Also, my arrow keys aint workin right still either.

I was going to do that before I ever started this thread, but Microsoft in its infinite wisdom has hidden system restore in 8.1. I found out how to find it, but it's so convoluted I just said eff it.
 
You press #5 and it acts like a spacebar. And you also get a "5" after you press the spacebar. Hmmm. It could be software or driver related, but I would first rule out the keyboard. Go borrow another keyboard and try it out. Is your keyboard wireless, wired USB, or what?

I also like trailbeast's idea of reinstalling the keyboard driver.
 
I bet money this is hardware, not software/ driver. If you can get to the manuf. site or google, there is often a hardware manual or even youtube stuff on replacing the keyboard. There are often "tricks" hidden latch mechanisms, screws you didn't notice, etc. I've replaced the one on this Thinkpad, I just plain wore the print off the keys LOL

Hey Rob, it occurred to me last night that you might try the on screen keyboard and see what it does.
If the problem is actually the laptops keyboard the on screen one should work right.
You can click the keyboard keys with your mouse.

I spoke with our IT dept today, since I was getting such a laugh out of this. Try running a malware program like malwarebytes, otherwise they said make sure your drivers are up to date. They are checking on other solutions and I'll get back to you when I hear.
 
I think the keyboard is messed up. Sure seems like it. Too many things don't work or don't work as they should.
