I decided this section was the best place to ask this question. While studying up on the classic (1966-1972) Trans Am racing series, I found some mention of a rule forbidding fastback cars prior to 1969; it was supposed to be a racing series for sedans only. However, Ive seen various examples of 66 and 67 Plymouth Barracudas with the fastback body style being raced in Trans Am during those years. So, Im either mistaken about the rule, or the Barracudas were not considered fastbacks during that time; but then I wonder why the fastback Mustangs (prior to 1969) were not raced then. Does anyone have any clarification on this matter?

I've not heard of that, there may be some truth to it but it would be best to track down the rules. My guess is that it had something to do with the seating rather than the shape of the roofline. This rule, if it was, maybe only applied to the Big Bore class?

That would be Gerald Robinson driving in several of the 1970 races, car #29. If you know of any others, or if he raced in the previous years, please share.

My GUESS is they didn't consider the backglass part of the "roof" so technically in SCCA's eyes it didn't have a fastback design---one of racing's "gray areas" I guess. Same could be said for the Mustangs, as, strictly speaking, the roof doesn't slope down, so how is it a "fastback"?
