transmission that goes with 360?

i want to upgrade my 318 to atleast a 360.
could someone give a lady a break and list what tranny goes with what motor.. i have a hard time with that area.

i believe,..
383 / 727
360 / either 727 904 (is one better then the other?)
340 is 727

If you intend on using a big block you will need a big block 727. Yes there is a difference in the mount between the big and small blocks. As for a small block a 727 or a 904 will work. The 904 is a lighter version that requires modification for hard abuse. The 360 is different from the 273,318,340 in the way the engine is balanced so the flex plate is important to get the right one.

Small blocks 318/340/360 can use a 904 or a 727

Easier to find 904 SB trans and plenty tough for mild builds. The 727 and 904's are really easy to rebuild.

don't forget if you are going 360 you MUST have a 360 torque converter. because the engines are externally balanced instead of internally like a 318. the 360 converter will have weights on it, 318 will not.
