Can you switch the ball and trunnion to a slip joint? ps if you run the 340 go with the 10.5 clutch.

To check if it has 3.09 gears, put some tape on the input shaft and output flange and make a mark at 12:00 on each. Put it in first gear and rotate the input one revolution. The output should roll over a little over three times.

The other first gear ratios for an 833 are roughly 2.4x and 2.6x so it should be a no brainer for what you have.

That's Alot of OverDrive!
Sorry but just the opposite of above ^^^.

To check if it has 3.09:1 first gear, mark the input shaft and the output shaft. Now spin the OUTPUT shaft 1 revolution exactly. The INPUT shaft will have spun 3.09 (or less depending on which first gear is in it).

Or spin the input shaft 3.09 rev's and the output will have done just 1 rev.

I remember a discussion here about the 3.09 first gear, if the 2nd gear is near the same as anA833
Aluminum With OD, the rpm will drop significantly
Second gear in the OD trans is 1.67. Second gear in the non-OD 4-speed with the 3.09 gear is 1.92.

Not nearly so much rpm drop from first to second in the non-OD 3.09 trans as in the OD trans.

Yes, if you use the slip joint main shaft and extension housing.

You can also get a conversion driveshaft to replace the ball and trunnion u-joint which uses (I think) a Chevy truck type bolt on flange with a slip spline the goes into it.

No need. If your B&T front universal is in good shape it'll handle just about anything you can dishnoit. They used that set up in the 426 Max Wedge. 425hp factory rated.
