I am getting dizzy looking at Electronic Ignition set ups for my 340. I have a 69 Barracuda with a moderately modified 340 (about 375 HP) and a 4 speed. It has a Mopar Performance Electronic Ignition Kit that is about 25 years old. I have noticed that it is not running as well as it used to. Not quite as much power. It am a pretty good mechanic, and I have deduced it to be ignition related. I thought I would just replace my ignition system with another Mopar Performance Electronic system, but they are evidently no longer made. So I thought about a complete MSD kit. I called and a tech guy recommended 65243 black 6AL Ignition box, 85345 black distributor, 8222 coil, and 32749 spark plug wires). However, I have these problems / questions. The spark plug wires are straight boot, but my 340 has headers, and the boots and/or wires on cylinders 5 and 7 will hit the # 3 cylinder header pipe. The tech guy assures me that the boots will bend up to 45 degrees, but the description does not mention that. Plus, the coil he recommended does not look like it will match up with the recommended spark plug wires. I do not want to run one of the HEI based systems I have seen advertised. Does anyone have any MSD or Mopar Performance ignition experience.

FBO HRR688 Mopar Computerized Ignition Systems.
Use it in my Dart, works great, built in rev limiter and a led for self test

It looks good. Did you get the entire kit with the distributor?

And of course the tech guy wanted to sell you a MSD. He's probably on commission. LOL
Mopar electronic has served millions of cars for billions of miles.

Just the box and coil. Already had the MP distributor. Bypassed a 2 prong ballast resister with a white wire so still looks mostly stock. Have run it for about 5-6 years, no issues with it. Have a 360 with thermoquad, starts great, even in winter with no choke. as soon as gas gets to the carb that is. I hate the newer fuel.

The Revenator and the FBO boxes have both come back with excellent reviews. Ether one is use over the Chrysler Chrome box which has been my favorite for decades.

If your going to move away from the stock style set up, without a doubt, I’d use a ready to run distributor. While MSD has one (pricey bastards), I would go over to Pace Performance and use there ready to run unit at a much reduced cost. They are built by the same people that build the MSD units.
Speak with Johnny Mac here. He used to work there but is now at Blue Peint Engines.
I use one now and love it. It performs excellent. EZ hook up and go!

I would not ever go back to a 6AL.
Screw that garbage!
What a waste of time and money.
