Tunnel ram or no tunnel ram...

-
While I'm doing some shopping I started thinking about air cleaners and scoops...
Is there any soop that could work? I need about 1,5 inches more than my six pack scoop can handle. Any ideas would be great!

Also I realized today that this tunnel ram idea is more expensive than complete big block stroker kit from 440 source...

This guy on ebay makes a AAR style scoops in standard, 4", 6" and 9" height. Normally for an E-body hood but I would bet it could be fit to an A-body. Can always ask. I prefer the Mopar style hood scoops over the generic stuff.

Ok so the intake is here and I found a good deal on pair of Williams carbs, but they are 820cfm rated by them, they have 1.675 throttle blades and are on progressive linkage. They have interchangeable boosters so I can get annular and switch on my own. I hope I can make them work, because I made a deal to buy them.

Btw casting quality of this intake is far from great. Will need work.

Those are nice carbs. If you are running pump gas (I can’t remember if you are or aren‘t) I would certainly look into an annular booster that has a minimum of 16 holes and IMO 20 holes would be better.

Of course, I could be totally wrong on that so if I were you I would email or call Mark at Lightning Carbs and ask him what boosters he likes for your application. He makes his own boosters and that’s what I use.

It’s 100 octane pump.
I talked to Gary Williams about carbs, he says they will work great on my engine. They were initially made for smaller displacement with higher compression combo.
I will be able to compare the boosters that are in there to annular. He says it should run very well as is but also thinks annular is worth a shot. Easy to swap so this will be interesting to see what is what.
I will be able to compare on the dyno.

These intakes need a lot of cleaning. Ton of casting flaws, significant core shift as well. Indy didn’t change much.
Still like the intake but as cast it’s not good to be installed at all.

you could always drill and tap the intake bosses for fogger nitrous nozzles while you wait
This is my next step with 500ci 230 casting Milodon x bolted mains short block. It’s going to be 12.5:1 so finally I will be able to run right size cam.

Can I determine jetting based on my Dominator jet sizes?
It’s now 83 front and 94 rear. This makes for an average of 12.8 wot around 7000 rpm and very nice cruise…
I realized that I will need twice the jets so some shopping is needed…

I will know how tall I can go once pro stock scoop gets here. I’m between this and tapered spacers under carbs. What’s the better option?
BOTH...anti-reversion and prob could go with 3/4 Delron. I did 1/2" but it was done for a smaller CID and less compression.

I am thinking about more radical scoop to have more freedom of choice here.
Perhaps this:

I put the scoop on and made it look as installed and blended using some computer software… Time to do some welding to patch holes from previous scoop and glass it on I guess…

Did you ever think about cutting a hole in the back of this scoop to let cold air flow thru it front to back?
I have not, but read a bunch about Super or Pro stock doing it. Mine isn't fast enough...lol. no issues over 100mph so far

Carbs came in, I was busy today…
I will run this with return style regulator so 2x AN8 lines need to go to the side.

View of both setups side by side, these 4150 carbs look tiny compared to the dominator.

It will be tight with that scoop but it’s alive! Seems to react better to gas than with single dominator. Will take it out tomorrow to see better what’s what.
