Anyone have a thought on an STR14 manifold in comparison to the standard Weiand tunnel ram I have now? Background....late 70's low compression 440 with Hughes Whiplash cam, fenderwell headers, 3500 stall, reverse manual valve body, and 3.91 gears. This is strictly a street car. I currently have a Weiand Tunnel Ram with Holley 660 center squirters. I am curious to people's thoughts on what performance benefits or cuts I would experience. Right now, I am very happy with the way it starts, runs across the board, and street manners.

no experience with such a combo, but if your happy with it, leave it alone.
car looks like a ton of fun to drive!

Both have the wow factor, but the cross ram is less seen so it has a bit more wow factor when revealed in my opinion, as far as performance goes, now there's a race I'd like to see with similar cars.

If it is just a street car and you are happy with how it runs, don't **** with it.

I agree on not messing with something that works very well. Just love the look of the Pro Stock/Max Wedge engines and could go back to using the factory hood. Mostly just wondering people's thoughts or experience between the two styles.

The tunnel ram will make more power than the STR, everywhere in the powerband, but the STR is the coolest looking

I understand the draw of a big block cross ram they are rare and just look badass. But as previously stated if top numbers are your goal in a normally aspirated motor tunnel rams pretty much are the top of the food chain. I have seen test s on unprepared cross Rams and the numbers are even below a good six pack, but as mentioned there is horsepower to be made with epoxy and popsicle sticks to improve air and fuel delivery. But my car is 95% street car and overall presentation and rarity lead my build not 20 horsepower.

I really should just enjoy as it is until my 340 is done...then it will have an original 6 pack back on it. Then the TR 440 in the hot rod, which is where the TR would look best. For now, it would be nice to have a sealed up hood at times.

I replaced a tm7 modified to work with my max heads, and an 850 holley, with a max wedge intake and two 750 carters. I had to work hard to get the drivability back, and the car slowed down anyway.
Everything you have now might be worse with the str14, except the wow factor.

I don't believe they used popsicle sticks and epoxy on Big Block cross rams

IF you have or could find the STR they made them for 3 deuces. OR put three of them on top of the tunnel ram.

You know you could be right I was remembering out of a small block race manual I believe. Race Masters does a intake comparison that included cross Rams turnnel rams, six packs, they did mention it at that time I think LOL Part 2 of Hot Rod's Mopar Intake Manifold Shootout. Okay I just realized this isn't the same manifold you're talking about sorry.

lol, no worries, I know there was something to that which was related to the STR-12 340 cross ram.

There is a 3 deuce STR on Craigslist or Marketplace right now...

Note: I love the performance across the board with my current setup - from starting to cruise and in town to WOT. Very pleased. Just at times it would be very nice to have a closed hood.

Nothing tells the car next to you how effed they are like staring over at your dual quad tunnel ram sticking out of the hood.....

Me I fat fingered it on my phone by accident it's changed calm down...
trust me I get people disagreeing with me all the time just because they don't like me. And has nothing to do with what I say... Watch am I didn't get a disagree on this...

No worries here, just was wondering if someone had a concern not mentioned. Maybe I could shed light on something, maybe there is something someone saw I need to worry about.

EASY to fat finger a red x by accident, scrolling on a phone or tablet. Ive done it more times than i want to count.

What about a blower belt?

But he brings up a good point...the STR will require a new hood aswell
