Hello all, I have a 75 duster that I took my dash apart and installed aftermarket gauges. I never seen the lights work or even tried them when I bought the car. Long story short after doing engine swap, paint and interior, when I tried the turn signals nothing but the flashers would go on if I squeezed the flasher button. So I replaced the blinker and hazard flashers and bought a new turn signal switch. Now the flashers click like they are on. No lights flash at the dash. The flasher itself keeps clicking and getting very hot and only the rear taillights blink. When I turn the flashers on, then both the front and back blink like they are supposed to also in the dash. Then when I turn the key on and try the turn signals I still hear the clicking from the flashers and the opposite turn signal goes on. I thought the turn signal switch was defective, cuz I read the reviews after the fact and they had the same problem. I bought another one, and am having the same issue.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks,

Sid

Just went thru this, had to solder a ground wire to each of the sockets, everything worked perfect after that. May not be your problem, take a jumper wire to the socket and just try to find a good ground before you solder.

YOU NEED to take some time out and LEARN HOW TO troubleshoot.

Get a test lamp, couple of alligator clip jumper wires and a decent multimeter and learn to use them. If you post the model of the meter on here and or a photo we can step you through some things.

Access the turn signal switch connector where it enters the steering column, and set up to back probe the connector. Make a little pictorial and diagram the connector, the wire colors, and what they do

Basically what you have going to and from the switch:

IN:

Switched brake lights power

Turn flasher power with key in "run."

Hazard flasher power at all times

Outputs:

Left rear, right rear signal/ stop lamps
Left front, right front signal lamps

You can backprobe the connector as you cycle the switch through functions, actuate the brake pedal and hazards and look for what voltage appears where

I tore the dash apart and found a flasher in the dash that I wasn't aware of. I replaced it with a new flasher and the turn signals are working properly now. But the hazards only work if you have the turn signal on as well. I also found a flasher 552 in this plug (photo below), it states in the book that it is a plug for the map light switch. But I can't find what it plugs into? Or does it plug into something else?

I feal your pain, tore my hair out fora week on the same problem

One thing that always helps when working on signal/Hazzard lights is to ensure all the light bulbs sockets are clean as a whip. The flashers rely on amp draw to work properly. Often you will find your signal lights will flash more quickly and steadily after cleaning these up.

You can look that up on the diagram. CI-23 stands for the "Connector, Instrument panel" (or Interior) no. 23 and is identified on the diagram.

If you look at the index before the diagrams start, you'll see, EG in the alphabetical list that "map light switch" is at location 27E. Go down the pages until you see 27 listed at the top of the page, then down that page to "E" on the left. There it is, the map light switch, called out as CI-23, and further identified by the brown and yellow wiring.
