Ugly Bastard.. 67 Barracuda Notch

Haven't done much on the car lately, been too much into the reassembly on the '49 Fargo. But I keep telling myself to just get the metal work over with so I finished up the drivers side rocker and quarter in front of the rear wheel. Just need to do a bit in front of the drivers door and figure out the rear part of the quarter.



More rot to address.

 
Amazing how much rot hides behind the outer skin. I can't recall how many times I had to explain to a customer (bodyshop) why the repairs were costing way more and taking far longer. I just wasn't the type to address it by covering it up. I had to do it right...
 
Finally wrapped up the exterior metal work. I couldn't find a quarter patch panel so I just made my own. I bolted the door back on, welded in some patches in the trunk drip rail and behind the dog leg on the drivers fender. I still have the console brackets, ball stud bracket on the frame, torque boxes, and sub frame connectors to weld in.





On Thursday I'll be taking it down the street to a friend's place to do the filler work and prime/paint in his paint booth.
 
Hey thanks! I go back and forth from this to my '49 Fargo to my '77 F250 to my '66 Rambler to my '70 Dart etc etc. But I'm pretty sick of metal work on this so I'm excited to get some paint on it and get into reassembly.
 
I bet your sick of welding on that car! Lots of work there. But look on the bright side,your light years ahead of me!I have the parts now,but lack things like primer and paint. Fund raising needs to happen ahead of any purchases,so the next phase is to pull and sell the 8 3/4....lol that most likely will wait until spring.
 
Been a while since I posted, since I worked on it even. I had tried my hand at filler, sanding, etc. Turns out I dislike it a LOT. Metal work, I'm all in. Engine work, drivetrain, anything mechanical, interior, reassembling the car, great. Filler work? Not for me. Anyways, the car sat and sat, just needing filler and prime. I had a couple guys give me quotes to do the filler and spray it, too expensive for me though. So it sat. The other day I got the itch to work on it, so I bought a cheap orbital sander and went to work on it. I just want a car that can be driven in the rain if I'd like, or left outside under the tree. So I'm ok with it being a 15 footer. I sprayed it in primer last night, outside (I don't have a paint booth). After fighting with mixtures, the primer went on alright. A few spots to add some spot filler to but it'll be OK. I'm going with YY1 yellow, its more of a cream. I'll spray on the stripes in black along the lower part of the car, between wheel openings, above the rocker trim. Here's some pics of before and after the primer.













 
After primer. I used a 2K epoxy primer through a spray gun. This is just one coat on it.

Lol,yup I kinda dislike bondo dust too,put up with it for years.

Last posted May 16, yeah hadn't really touched the car since then. Found a little bit of rust on the pass side rocker that I never noticed, worked on other projects. Picked up a '49 Fargo B1B, all original with rebuilt flathead 6 and 3 on the tree, 6 volt and all. Also picked up a '74 Scamp less engine/trans, threw a slant 6 in it and it's now my all weather daily driver.

Anyhow, went out to do bodywork on a friend's truck and while letting his battery charge I thought I'd just tinker on the Barracuda. Needless to say, I got some work done and I'm back into it!

Looking great Mike! Ya sometimes a break from the project is needed. Then when you get back on it you're in full swing. It's not an ugly bastard anymore! Man has it come a long way. Nice to see you back so I have another build to keep me motivated.

Lol, yeah, I needed a break from this place. Too many bad attitudes and too much drama. I'll frequent more often though.
 
It's supposed to be '67 Plymouth RR1 yellow but they mixed me a '68 Chrysler color instead? Closer to Daffodil Yellow. I ordered some stripes from Challenger Gary too so those will break it up a bit.
 
Put the first piece of trim on, installed the dash which I restored a couple months back. Decided to use a '68 dash because I like the lower pad, and the thumb wheel radio. I used a 150 mph speedo and a factory clock in the center instead of the tach or vacuum gauge. I also cleaned up the wiper motor, redid the wiper pivot seals, cleaned up the heater box and heater core, and a few other bits and pieces. Found an old bottle of Kokanee in the pass side fresh air vent, unopened. Lol, guess after all these years I never checked in there.
