I am considering adding V Band Clamps to an existing exhaust system, to make disassembly easier for engine pulls.
I bought a set of Summit V Band clamps and noticed that the depth of the diameter for the exhaust to print into is only about 1/8 of an inch.
For ease of installing, less critical on the straightness of the exhaust pipe cut and length I was hoping for more.
Is that print depth standard across other V Band clamps?

I thought the ID of the V clamp is the OD of the exhaust tube. Dunno what that little ridge is all about. Room to burn your weld into? Is that the 1/8 inch you speak of?

I ordered V clamps to fit a 2 inch pipe.
The OD of the 2 inch exhaust pipe is 2.030
The ID of the 1/8 inch cut into the V Band clamp is 2.034
The ID of the main body of the V Band clamp is 1.951

so the exhaust pipe will fit into the shallow 1/8 inch depression, but not into the main body of the V Band clamp. And that is my question. Is that how it is supposed to be?

that is how all of the V bands I have used have been. just that little recess to lock the pipe in. I agree a little deeper cut would be nice and make mocking up a little easier some times.
