Valve spring retainers stuck?!

I've been putting off replacing the valve seals on my 318 for a couple weeks now. Today, I finally got around to it and I'm having a problem.

I can't seem to get the springs to drop free of the retainers. The spring is good and compressed, but they just won't drop.

Anybody have some tips or insight on the subject?

Crisis solved. For anybody that encounters this problem, some penetrating oil and tapping with a mallet with the spring not compressed did the job.
