I was US Army, 1973-1976 2nd AD "Hell on Wheels" My older brother Jim was with the 82nd AB Div. He severd in Nam in late 71 till 72 (Americal) until a command detonated RPG took both his legs in Mar 72 during an ambush. Wounded and under fire he was awarded both the Bronze and Silver Star with Valor while supporting fire so the rest of his platoon could take cover. The MASH hospital in Da Nang patched him up the best they could and then he was sent to Fitsimmons for rehab. Jim died exactly 13 years ago today. He was 46. His war wounds caused his early death yet his name will never be seen on any wall.
 
USAF 2005-Present. Been a jet engine mechanic for F-15's, C-17's, and now C-130's; currently deployed in the AOR making them fly.
 
Hi all, I read this whole thread. I dont think there is anyone older than me on here yet. Lol. US Army Engineers. 1959 - 1962. 2 years in Germany.
 
USAF 71thru 2006 ,two tours southeast asia,germany then Iraqui freedom( RIGHT) and enduring freedom (uh huh) ,injured in 2004 and medically retired .transporter and freighter, C130"s ,c 5's, and my lifeflight C141 A Starlifter,,,sad to see it retired,,Stay strong soldiers I'm backing you all the way thru Hxxx

Very good friend of mine lost a ******** in a rocket attack on his tanker, in the Central Highlands circa '68.

Eventually, (11 years ago) that conflict took his life, too.

Top display is elevation, with cursers aligned to the glidepath angle. Bottom curser is "wave off" Marks left/ right are "range markers" out to 10 mi.

Bottom of display is azimuth left/ right of runway, cursor represents centerline of runway. Last markers are "touchdown"

Here's the TACAN present day at Miramar, this could very well be the same tower that was there in 74 I was nearly wiped off this thing by a sh** head crane driver back then. He came in with an old 6X8 crane truck, the crane op couldn't swing the stick fast enough as the do do driver made a big u-ie. He finally stopped and the stick STILL whacked the tower as it stopped. I damn near had me a "sandcrab" fer lunch. Came down off that tower, about 3 rungs at a time

We also had two AN/FPN-36 "Quad RADAR" units. These were so called because they had four functions: short range "taxi" search function, 30 mile search, "heightfinder", and what they were used for most, PAR (precision approach radar, or GCA)

US Army Active Duty 1/84-5/93....left as a Staff Sergeant...95B34V5, which is MP/MP Investigations and Protective Service, and also did a stint as a recruiter...wouldn't trade it for anything. Basic/AIT in Ft. McClellan, AL, assigned to Ft. Bliss, TX, Panama, Honduras, and did recruiting in Wheeling, WV/Eastern Ohio....Thank You to all veterans from all branches of service, both active and Guard/Reserves...to all the military brotherhood!
 
US Army Retired Chief Warrant 4, OH-58, UH-1 & CH-47 Helicopter Pilot & CH-47 Maintenance Test Pilot/Maintenance Officer. Did 22 1/2 years, should have stayed for 30 but was burned out with all the overseas duty - Tours: 3 x Korea, 2 x Germany, 2 x Ft. Lewis, WA, 2 x Ft. Rucker, AL, 1 x Ft. Hood, TX. Joined out of high school, 1st as a Huey mechanic then applied for flight school, the rest is history...

I have great respect for those that have suffered in the service of their country. The rest of you.........
