W2 or R/T heads?

-
Easy. W2 all day long, as long as you have line of sight on a good set of heads, know someone knowledgeable who can port them, and understand they require special rocker gear and headers. All this stuff is easy enough to find, most can be bought off the shelf. Gotta pay to play in the W-series head world though.

You can buy some “things”. TTi as said above, has w2 headers, hedman has flanges with stubs to make a set. And of course lots floating around online for purchase. Or you can go the route I did and buy Chevy headers and cut the flanges off if they don’t need to fit a specific car.

I purchased Hedman Huslers for an abody. They have w2 flange headers too, right?

They don’t take special headers. You van use standard port headers on W2 heads. That’s what I’m going to do. I refuse to use TTI headers. I may eventually buy the headers out of Massachusetts because they make a beautiful header but I’d bet they are 1500 bucks or more now.

I’m not dropping that much cash in a year or two for 20 hp. And you’ll probably never hear me say that again.

Depends on the exhaust bolt spacing since they have two, narrow and wide.

I think it’s important to note here that there are 2 different exhaust flanges that came on different versions of W2 heads. Look at my picks above and take note of the bolt patterns. That’s why some LA headers fit and some don’t. There are also adapters you can buy to make LA headers bolt up to the different bolt patterns.

Here's the dyno run from late last night. 571 hp. Brian is going back in today (Saturday) to tweek it a little. Overall, I'm very pleased with the work he has done. Maybe I'll get one of the t-shirts!

Will you be testing the headers you’ll be using in the car?

Unfortunately no. These headers are what Brian has and the TTIs that I'll be running haven't been ordered yet.

We have TTI headers here, but they take more time to install so I use our dyno headers...I have tested them against the TTI headers on several engines over the years, usually and most of the time the TTI will make more TQ at peak (roughly 20lbs.) and give up almost nothing in HP if it's 650HP or below and same size (1 7/8 x 3.5).

I think the big gulp from Hughes is a better head plus stock manifold fits. 225 cc. ports flow 325 cfm. my opinion.
Owning both, I’d say, NO!

Short side is murdered killing low lift and not performing as advertised.

Where is Iron Mikes thread on this head under performing?

Search member Ironmike for his Hughes headed thread.

I have several different small block headers here I can test with.

The only headers I don’t have are are TTI 1 7/8. If I find a used set I’ll buy them.

Nice work Brian and Brian. 571hp is getting it done. Can you post the data sheets from the dyno run for us. Please and thank you.

how did Saturday turn out?

I haven’t heard from Brian. He’s been having some problems with his back. I’m sure he’ll be in touch.
