okay guys here the question i bought a water temp guage for my alero. can i tap into my coolant hose with the fitting and tape the fitting so it doesnt leak? or will it ruin my hose?

okay

you cannot replace the sensor for the light
it interfaces with the ecm to turn fans on/set idiot light/etc
you would have to use some kind of t fitting and run both off the same port
which will be tough because of the design of the factory temp sensor
on a 3.4 it's located on the drivers side front of the intake
on a 2.4 it's located on what looks like a thermostat housing on the drivers side of the head

I have found that running a T or an extension pipe for water temp does not work all that well because it creates a dead end for the water... it will not flow up into the T and the water temp will not be accurate. The temp gauge is designed to protrude into the water jacket. You should be able to find a plug somewhere going into a water jacket.

I hope you didn't get an Alero with the 2.4 engine. IMO they are junk and will not take any abuse.
