WE ARE A GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER COME BACK.

When I was a kid, we faced the flag, put our right hand over our heart, and recited the pledge of allegiance. Then we bowed our heads, and said a prayer. Even the ornery kids showed respect while we did these. There weren’t school shootings back then.

Never once was a thought, trend, idea, or scheme of getting 5 second of fame killing classmates when I was in school (I'm 51.) Definitely respected the Flag. But my dad and Navy so for us I don't think we had a choice lol....

I’m 68. My Dad was a WW II vet, as were most of my friends fathers. My Dad also worked for the Army, Bell Aircraft Expert, and growing up close to Scott Air Force Base, many in my school were military kids. You bet we were taught to respect the flag!!

The mid to late 1970s is considered the second most violent period in U.S. school history with a series of school shootings, most notably were;

• December 30, 1974 Olean, New York, Anthony Barbaro, a 17-year-old Regents scholar armed with a rifle and shotgun, kills three adults and wounds 11 others at his high school, which was closed for the Christmas holiday. Barbaro was reportedly a loner who kept a diary describing several "battle plans" for his attack on the school.

• June 12, 1976 California State University, Fullerton massacre, where the school's custodian opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle in the library on the California State University, Fullerton campus killing 7, and wounding 2.

• February 22, 1978 Lansing, Michigan After being taunted for his beliefs, a 15-year-old self-proclaimed Nazi, kills one student and wounds a second with a Luger pistol.

• January 29, 1979 Grover Cleveland Elementary School Shootings, California, where a 16yr old girl opened fire with the rifle, a gift from her father, killing 2 and wounding 9.

Every generation is a generation that will never come back. The only constant is change. Yours was different than the one before yours, and that generation said they same thing about your generation.
I disagree . Something happened in the mid 80s and beyond.

The good old days!

I find this truly ironic, unless you intended to throw your own generation under the bus. Because according to your profile you're a Boomer, so it was your generation that was primarily raising their kids in the mid 80's. And it was the Greatest and Silent generations running the country for the most part. All the US presidents in the 80's were members of the Greatest generation.

And that is of course the problem with whining about the new generations. Because if you're whining about the generation after yours, well, you raised them. And even the generation after that, well, your kids raised them. And who's to say you didn't have a hand in screwing up your grandkids for that matter? For a Boomer to say it went south in the 80's is pretty hilarious though. Unless you're gonna try and pin it on the Greatest or Silent generation, since the President would have been from the Greatest generation and most of the heads of industry would still have been from the Silent generation, or older Boomers.

Sadly I agree with you . It’s our fault we didnt handle our kids as did our mothers and fathers did . “Spare the rod and spoil the child “ the old saying goes ! And my parents and grandparents were sooooo right . Yes it’s all our fault

I grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s , don’t remember anyone having access to an AR or a Glock

Had my first 3 guns by age 10. Was hunting without Adult supervision (had to stay near the house somewhat) by age 12. We always had guns readily available and with friends over growing up. No more dangerous than walking out in front of a car for us.

I will say we didn't have infants, and extremely young children around either. That would have been a change in how the guns were stored I am sure...

We didn’t have AR’s or Glock’s back then. We did have semi automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols. I, and most of my friends knew where they were kept, but also knew better than to mess with them.

lol.. i always think the same way when this subject comes up. its comical

People are the product of their genetics and their environment (How and what they are taught). Holds true for every generation and every individual.

Exactly, look at the change in technology from my grandfather’s time 1898 - 1982 the man saw cars, telephone, tractors, electricity to the farm, man walking on moon, television, cell phones, microwaves, the list goes on. Pretty steep learning curve. Doesn’t take away from, for lack of a better word, morals. But it adds many more unforeseen issues to the plate that people of the last generations have to deal with in raising their kids. All we can do is try to give them a sense of right and wrong and teach them problem solving. Because what effected my dad, grampa was a little lost, me and my dad, me and my boys and so it goes. Every generation does what it can. But with the media the environment changes faster than we can

News and Politics, Mark. Your beautiful thread about the nostalgia and splendors of our generation are about to be shifted to another forum category. Thank you for reminding me about the cool things I grew up with!!!
Funny how things always get turned around into politics or religion isn't it. That's how wars start. You're welcome 69 and have a great day

I deleted some posts. We will see if the politics continues.

Well the heart of the whole thread is “political “ and or certainly leads anyone right into that direction . Just take the whole post down
I disagree Glenn. Nothing political on the original post as far as I'm concerned. It was just plain innocents.

Then again the forum is “anything goes “ ???? No?
I will have a chat with the site owner about that. Don't take it literally. Anything means everything and you and I both know that is not allowed.
