....waiting for the Summit order to come in to replace the pickup in MSD billet distributor, due to the rusting issue they have...sad that a $300 dizzy has this issue. Hopefully that cures the issue of car running like an old grain truck......lol.....if not, tracking down the issue is in order.
What part specifically is rusting? I have one that's a few years old. Just wondering what I need to look at, to be proactive.

it is pretty much every part that is metal inside distributor, except for the reluctor wheel seems to be clean......the weights, part of pickup that bolts to dist., etc.
Apparently this is an issue of certain production years/runs...there was no protective coating/grease applied to metal parts and the caps did not come with a vent (although my cap had a vent) or not enough venting. And due to the MSD producing a much greater spark, it causes an ionization.

A couple threads at MSD forums about it:
Rusty distributor

Corrosion Issues

I do not know the age of the dist., as it came with car when I bought it......it looks brand new, but I do not know for sure, so newer ones may be o.k.

Retune the 64 Belvedere after the petronix igniter quite on a cruise on Saturday. Luck I had the points along and changed them. The petronix 2 was new and installed 6 months ago.

Have the new pickup in and the dist all cleaned up with a coat of dielectric grease, ready to go back in.

Here are pics of the rust/ionization build up, for those interested/following (weights had more rust on top, but I wiped some off upon discovering the issue). Build date stamped on the dizzy is Sep14.

A little more progress on the resurrection of the D4B for my 1965 Commando... Got the heat cross over plugs done, and painted in the Arizona Sun... Where it will sit for a few days... But I had to sit the AVS2 650 CFM on top for a look...

I'll never get everything done in time for Mopars in the Park but when has that ever stopped me from going, bloody, burnt knuckles and whatever else!
LOL
At least they should look most done at first glance. Still so much left to do!

Still trying to come up with a better looking air filter/sealed air pan deal , for the throttle body that is up in my 6 pack scoop due to a victor intake on raised port heads.
I built one that works ,but aint real proud of it !

I would think that would be hard to fabricate.

I've been hooking up stuff on the 440 in my 64 D100. Got the trans lines fabricated and installed. Champion radiator for a 69 Charger, fits great. Getting closer every week, didn't meet my May 1st goal. Having to work for a living gets in the way of working on stuff.:soapbox: But it allows me to buy parts. Yeah!

Well, she left the garage this evening.. before and after shots. (I realize it isnt everyones taste but hopefully respected)

I think i shoukd do a build thread...

Anyway, new white paint (car rolled off the line in 67 as white..), bumpers and grille painted, hood and decklid vinyl wrapped, new black 17 and 18 inch wheels, twin scoops, and black out LED headlights.. just finished 95% assembly tonight.. ran to Walmart parking lot for picture lighting.. :steering:
