What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
I am thinking I am going to enjoy my car more than ever before!
I had a shitty start to the Moparing season when the aluminum headed 10.2 to 1 compression 360 ripper I built came apart during cam break in (my engine builder obviously sucks).
I resigned myself to sticking a stock bottom end 78 318 in which I stuffed a cheap Summit cam (SUM-K6901), Edelbrock Performer 318/360 intake and my tried and true 670 Holley vacuum secondary carb on to so I could drive it till I figure out some other engine option.
Well this 318, while still maybe needing a bit of tweaking, is such a sweetheart to drive it may be there for a while! I love having this car as my true daily driver for summer fun!

Installed a glove box in my '63 Valiant convertible. Had to do major mods to get it to fit. No worries cuz it'll only hold registration and insurance docs.

Brought home the Cicada. Hopefully it starts a domino effect for me to get the fleet running.

Figured I’d drive the car to work all week to make sure I don’t have any issues while driving to Mopars in the park this weekend.

day 1 timing cover springs a leak.

got enough rod to probably make 5 more.

Drove it to the West Plains Car Club monthly meeting - this time it was in the city park, and it was a beautiful evening. Pizza provided by the club, too :)
Now that it's warmer, for some reason the very light throttle, low-speed tip-in hesitation is worse. Thought a lean spot would get better with less air. Oh well, doesn't matter when stomping on it!

Fired up the 360 yesterday, ran in the new cam, changed out break-in oil and filter, ran again for another 45 minutes.

All checks out fine, ran out good and no leaks. The 360 balance plate on the neutral balance flywheel was spot on, ran smooth with no odd vibrations from the crank damper/flywheel combo not being correct.

So nice doing this on the "Run Stand" instead of in a vehicle, now it's all ready to go, correct carb and idling nice.

Happy Camper . . .

Made it up to Mopars In The Park here in MN today.

Been 2 years since
last show. Swap Meet open again and running strong.

Grabbed an LD4B Intake at a great price. Going to re-work the carb bolt threads, then back to 100%.

Build those 318s !!!

No car stuff... it runs and it is packed full of spare parts and crap for the move.

Spent time with this Hottie!!! Unfortunately the better team lost but at least she was happy. Happy wife = happy life.

Drove ~ 20 miles to a cruise-in in Willow Springs, Mo. (Also the grand opening of a local pharmacy). Burgers, dogs, chips, cookies, drinks provided. A nearly perfect sunny afternoon - wish they'd had a beer keg :D

It was in the low 80's... the temp very slowly sneaked up while I was going up the four-lane at 65 mph (3300 rpm) to 198. Once I got off the highway it dropped back down to 185 as usual. Guess I need a two-row 1-1/4" radiator for sustained highway use - although 200F is not overheating, really.

Well, since I have resurrected my Duster there have only been 3 people drive it. My Dad drove it before he passed. Me of course. And now my son! He just turned 16 a couple weeks ago and ever since he had his learners permit he was too apprehensive to drive it. Well today we went down for a parts run as we were working on his truck.
A 15 minute parts run got stretched to about an hour long cruise around. Now he is not nervous about driving it and even asked about trying it at the track for street legal night soon. It was a great day!

Nothing better than that!! Today is a day you both will remember for the rest of your life.

Fitting some 1.437 springs in my ported 1.94 sleaze master mag'em heads for my truck.
Trying to commit to a spring that will just do for the stock cam I'm leaving in.

Set up the motor to TDC compression on number one, primed it, and verified distributor position so hopefully this thing fires right away for cam break in.

I got the intake installed with a little help. I was surprised that the stock ports were so close to the gasket size.
