What did the factory use?

Hey Joe, don't know how I missed your reply to this a few days ago -- sorry. After your bad experience with customer service, the last thing you need from me is to drop the ball right in the middle of a conversation. LOL

I still laugh at your first post referencing the 30 layers of crud. I deal with that on a daily basis it seems. :-D

No, I don't know the guy with the green Charger. There's only one other Mopar around here and it's a blue Challenger 40 miles away.

The shipping prices have really come down a lot in the last couple of weeks (I guess since gas prices went down). I'd love for an opportunity to earn your business, so if you have any questions or want to see some color samples while you're getting everything torn down, just give me a call. Best of luck with the project!

No problems....I'm still here! lol

There was a dark green mid 60's Belvedere or Fury sitting on a car lot on the side of the road between Jackson and Huntingdon while I was out there.....Its been a while but the car was in great shape, As the story goes the owner of the lot was driving it to Memphis to sell at auction and the engine fried? Anyway I stopped by alot as they were rebuilding it. In the end they were asking to much for the times and it just sat on the lot for the rest of my time out there. (I left in 97) God that seems so long ago now.....
Any way I'll give you a yell in January and we will get a shipment off to you. It may be cheaper to go with 2 packages rather than 1 heavy one?

For what its worth, all the production cars I have seen had black painted UCA's and the LCA's were bare steel that had been dipped in cosmolene. When we restore a front end, we try to replicate the factory finish in appearance, but we powdercoat the parts to provide better corrosion resistance and easier cleaning.

I powdercoat the LCA's and then use a super secret formula to replicate the "gorilla snot" look of cosmolene (chuckle).

Here is a picture of one of our restored front ends (AdamRR's picture above is also one of ours - pretty cool to see it used as a reference by folks!)

you can see the Upper Control Arms powdercoated black and the Lower Control Arms powdercoated to look like plain steel and the gold/greenish finish to look like cosmolene.

Hope that helps!

i just paint it all black with good epoxy primer and eastwood chassi black. a guy i know reffered me to his friend that would give me great pricing as he was his friend and just starting the powder coating business. he gave me a price of 80.00-110.00 per wheel. i thought that was totally unreasonable. maybe im cheap but i will stick to painting my parts myself, at least with the prices here in nj.

James, I know a guy who coats up there by you. I'm happy to PM you with his email info if you'd like to talk with him.

I liked the area, had a ski boat then and spend alot of time on the lake in Lexington!

The Guy I used to bring my stuff to was great in the begining. His business grew and he has alot of gov contracts now so I guess he doesnt need the little guy anymore. he so grossly over estimated price to a young couple I recommended to him, on a bumper and tire carrier for a jeep I went in there and had it out with him, when I saw he wasnt going to back down I put 50.00 on the couples bumper / carrier told him not to tell them I did that and havnt been back since. To bad I used to hand his cards out like candy when he treated us good!

Joe

Who were you having coat your stuff around here? I have a shop in Portsmouth, and I've yet to find anyone reasonably priced either.
