What have I gotten myself into?

-
I just realized something. Outside of chopping the roof and doing the front wheel house uppers I'm done with my body modifications. I'm finally finished altering the body and I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave the chop up to a professional.

question.... may i ask, respecfully, why are you doing the drip rail before the "chop" is made?

Won't need a remote. I'm going to run the whole car off my tablet and my phone. My tablet can store hours a music and has a built in touchscreen with navigation and doesn't take up nearly the room of a traditional stereo plus I have the advantage of being able to take the whole entertainment center with me when I get out of the car and take the temptation away from the guy wanting to break into my car for my thousand dollar head unit. I'm also going to incorperate the cars ignition into my phone via Bluetooth so the only person able to start my car will be the person with the enable app on their phone.

Should have known the radical man would have a radical plan.

Actually not as radical as one might think. Most new touchscreen nav units are basically android devices at this point. My buddy SuperT Todd is the one pumping ideas in my head.

When you chop the roof, I think it would look sharp if you flattened out the area above the drip rail to the roof so it doesn't have that concaved look, but make sure you keep that sharp roof line. I circled the spot in red that I am talking about.

Hmmmm maybe on to something Jr. I could take that out even if I don't chop it. Subtle yet would change the whole profile.

I think its something a could just Fab into the roof either way.

I agree, it would be something subtle that would make one look at the car and say "there is something about it, but I just can't put my finger on it."
And it will accent that shaved drip rail. I am loving that look, by the way.

Yeah the shaved drip rail is a nice touch.

I know these pictures might bore the hell out of some people but I'm not a body guy so this is like fine artwork to me.

Good to see you getting after it with the filler. Go for it, the mistakes sand off. Maybe you're past my level in this but I have to say, I have just enough experience to know that the advice given by 67Dart440GT in the thread below is highly valuable, especially when it comes to laying down filler. The good stuff starts at post #18.

I think I got the hang of it. I also made a deal shaken/written on paper and signed with one of the guys at work. If I rough it out he will glaze it fill prime and final block in exchange for me pulling his motor regasketing and reinstalling it.

If it were mine, I wouldn't chop it. Don't get me wrong, it would look great chopped, but it would look just as badass with the stock height roof. I think Darts/Scamps are nicely apportioned from the factory.

You have lived...

Well here is the deal and why you all have seen so much work done the past couple days. I wanted to save this so I don't jinx myself, but, I have finally made a deal with Dupage county to get my license back in the next couple weeks. Huge deal money wise (close to 30 grand) so that being said I'm really hot to get the car at least 80% within the next month. I will need to finish a bunch of small details like glass and weather strip, interior panels, etc, etc but if I can get the car basically roughed out and in sealer/primer/base coat then I will start bringing it out to shows/events/meets while doing the finish details like wiring, plumbing, blah, blah. I'd like to have the car at a few of the bigger shows this year.

I'll bet! I got a bit of sticker shock when pricing chrome Stromberg 97's so I know your pain! I need six

When the guy says yeah I can make your back glass and the quote is half of what you paid for the car you rethink some decision

Dude, your car is as trick as can be.... with or without it being chopped. My 2cents.

Yeah and I'm at a point now where I'm saying to myself I think that's enough. I've touched every panel except the (huh I'm thinking here and I can't think of one I didn't touch) the roof skin itself. I need to draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough and commit to finishing. The last week has taught me that I'm going the right way and doing something most would look at an admire.

I had a moment today on Facebook and I'll share it here. I have a band that I've listened to since I was a freshman in high school. They were my first tattoo, the band I listen to when I'm down in the dumps, the band I blast while I weld and bend and shape. I have befriended one of the members of the band and I'm sure he knows I'm a hardcore fan. Today he said he wished he had started talking to me a few years ago because he had an old jag XJ12 that needed some serious work , but, he didn't know anyone that knew wtf they were doing, yet after looking at my pictures of what I've been doing he would have asked me to do his resto. He also said if he gets another one I'm the first person he will be contacting to build it. So someone I idolize thinks my work is good enough for him. That made my week, month, year.

My point. I have accomplished my goal of self redemption with this project, and, created something I hope will inspire others to get up and get in the garage no matter how much someone tells you your not good enough and shouldn't touch a car ever again(different story different day)
