What is this noise?

It was only 40 degrees out in the garage this morning so I stuck a small space heater under the engine while I was working on it. A half hour later, a heard a periodic ticking noise from inside the engine. Could this be the lifters?

Sounds like the metal warming up and ticking from expansion. Just like exhaust
ticking when cooling down.

Lol... Maybe you have ruuuuuuuuuust issues and it is flaking off inside the engine.

Too funny. Engine was not running. It was a solid tap, tap, tap much like a noisy lifter.
