I did decide to go with the Dynomax Welded Ultra Flo mufflers in the 3" size. I bought a Magnaflow X pipe kit and installed it myself. I switched to Stainless Steel MIG wire and got to work on it. I don't have a car lift, just jackstands. I test fitted and cut stuff until it all fit together, then tack welded it all. I pulled it out and welded it away from the car then reinstalled it as a unit.
What a huge difference. The car idles much quieter now, to the point where i can actually hear the engine idle along with the lope of the cam and the tink tink of the headers. On the road it is quieter at all points. Cruising at 60, the interior noise has been reduced a bunch. That will please the wife for next weeks trip to LA for the Spring Fling. The sound when revving or at WOT is much different. I like it. I'm happy to learn that a car didn't have to be loud to sound great.

I have Flowmaster's on my Valiant and Satellite...both 340 cars and I love them.

Valint has only had them on it so ever tried another brand, it also has turn downs at the rear axle and not out the back, which makes it sound different but plans are to have them go out the rear soon...it has 2 1/2" pipes.

Before the Flowmasters, I had Turbo style muffs on my Satellite, but went bigger with 2 1/2" pipes, Heddman Hedder X-pipe and Flowmasters....I get lots of compliments about how nice the car sounds everywhere I go....yes, there is that typical hwy cruising drone......but hey, its not a new car :glasses7: :burnout:

Flowmaster 40s on my Swinger and Dynomax on the duster, both 340 cars, not big blocks. I personally like the 40s better. The dynomax w x pipe and 2 1/2 " exhaust sounds real bassy and blats like crazy under acceleration.

Glad you like them, that's what its all about!! Post up a vid and pics when u get a chance:)

Thrush glass pack's 2 1/2 inch with no tail pipes loud as ****! not to bad at cruise but when opened up....sound's like hell on earth!

for a chambered muffler my vote would be heartthrobs HVS muffler.very similar sound to a flowmaster...but they actually flow and they dont drone or resonate.or the classic chambered powersticks.for a straight thru design i like the jones thunderbolt glass packs combined with an x pipe (loud) or dynomax ultraflo (quiet).

+1 I love my Classic Chambered Powersticks... get a load of this idle sounds like a tank engine :evil2:

I've got an Accurate Exhaust system on my Challenger with their HP mufflers.(no H or X pipe) The 318 sounds good and matches the look of the car I think. I don't want the Dart to sound anything like this though.

Here's what I want the Dart to sound like...

I think it's a 340 with a MP purpleshaft 484/284 cam and a Flowmaster system. The Dart is getting a 360 with that cam so hopefully I'll get lucky. Here's another video of the Cuda running.

I have the original Flowmaster 40 series on both my cars. Sound wise,I think Flowmaster has the muscle car sound down. But flow wise, there is better. My next set of mufflers will be Magnaflows. Flow is now more important to me than sound.

I've run Flowmasters on several vehicles and have heard them on many others. I have figured out (I think) that they are perfect if the car has cast iron manifolds. I think all of the drone and tink, etc. are in combination with headers...

Aghh too much "blowmaster" talk lol... they sound like someone spitting seeds into a can more than an internal combustion engine jmo ha

What...Are you like 5 ?
Why not just state your muffler choice and move on ?

My car had Flowmaster 40 series..........too loud + drone, had to go. Had my local shop put some of his cheap turbo mufflers on, better.........had him put in an H pipe. Sounds good, no drone, no blatting. This will work until (if) I get some serious HP in the car.
