What should I do?

Having just lost $500. myself on an unusable part, I feel for ya. We like to think that we are all in this site because we like Mopars, and to help each other. So we trust someone to his or her word. I've said this before, I will say it again, a crooked seller can show you 20 pictures of a part, but it doesn't mean that you are going to get that part. After looking over all of the previous posts here, I still get the feeling that the buyer is getting the blame, not the crooked seller. Why is that? I know this because I too got blame. It's happened to me twice. If you can not trust a man for his word, his word means nothing.

I have been on this forum for about 12 years. I have bought and sold several parts. I always do my best to accurately describe the part I'm selling and the members I have bought parts from have done the same. You get used to reading the posts on here people helping each other out and you feel like you know them even though you have never met.. So you take what your told as the whole truth.I accept part of the blame for what happened on this deal. It probably won't stop me from shopping the classified section and I will still give people the benefit of the doubt. Mostly just wanted to let other members know what happened from my point of view.

Have you left the seller negative feedback yet?

When you do buy again, don’t use PayPal friends and family, walk away.

Getting back to what you should do. You unfortunately paid with friends and family. So you have no buyer protection. The seller can totally ignore you at this point and you have no recourse. There's nothing you can do. It's up to the seller.

There's feedback on FABO?? I though only FBBO did that??

**EDIT** I see it now. I guess i never realized it only shows when you are looking at for sale and wanted ads.

If I were the seller, I would have sent updated pics of the dash once I found the rot. Based on the first pics, I don't think it would be unreasonable for the OP to expect to deal with a little surface rust and cleaning. If he were complaining that the gauges and/or switches didn't work, well the O/P would be on his own since the seller made no claim of operating condition. No way would I have sent that without touching base. But that's me.

I'm sorry, I know this will not be a popular post. But if you paid $500 based on the pictures you posted, a lot of the blame falls on you. I would not have purchased any of the three dashes I saw based on those photos. If you asked for more photos, fine, but if you didn't, you pretty much got what you saw.

Those are the pictures the OP took of what he got, not from the ad.

Correct me if I am wrong, but those are the pictures of what he received. Not what he thought he was getting.
There is something else missing here too, the seller .

I bought a part from a member here, and paid what I thought was a fair price. I got the part and its not what was advertised and it is rusted to the point of not being a useable part for me. I got it over a month ago and sent a message to the seller about the part not being what is was supposed the be and of the rust condition. He told me he would make it right. I didn't hear anything for a month so I messaged him. He said he had more than one of these so I asked about the condition of the other parts and he said he would send pics of the other one, that was a week ago and I don't have pics. I paid about twice what I would have if this was a usable because of the way its was represented in the ad. I paid PayPal friends and family to save him the fees so I probably have nothing there to file a claim. I don't know if I waited long enough to name names or not. I see he has more parts he is selling and I don't want someone else to get screwed out of their money. I lost 500.00 out of my car budget with this guy. I have bought a lot of parts here for my car and all have been really good transactions. Buyer beware.
I'm not saying this is 'right', but here's what I'd do. Keep in mind that a used part can be perceived differently as to condition. Pictures sure help, but even then a buyer may be disappointed with the condition when it arrives. I know neither of you, so you could be just a complainer or he could be a liar & we're hearing only one (your) sid4e of the story.
Contact him again (you could even show him your correspondences here), and give him one week to send you a picture of the replacement he has offered. If it looks acceptable, give him a week to ship it to you. If that happened, your problem would be resolved about as well as you could expect. In that correspondence, advise him that, if this IS NOT resolved to your satisfaction (maybe he'd offer a price adjustment or ???) or if he doesn't reply at all, you will post his information on FABO (assuming FABO allows it). Thankfully, I've never had a transaction go that far wrong. I believe years ago a buyer contacted me & was unhappy with the condition of a part. I told him I'd adjust the price to his satisfaction. He gave me a 'number' and that's what I did - even though (IMHO) I thought the original price was fair. The $20 or $30 wasn't as important as having a satisfied buyer. I haven't done that many parts over the years, but I've been on both 'sides'. The vast majority of those transactions were quite friendly - as are most MOPAR guys.

I never ever use family and friends. I've been screwed once...once is all it takes. I figure in the percentage and add that to what I'm buying. It's a couple of dollars worth of insurance and peace of mind. I also get pics of what I'm buying, no pics no purchase.

may be that i am a bit strict in my thoughts, BUT in my opinion, not one of those dashes looked anything like the dash he received. i feel like he should be able to get all his money back, and return shipping paid also. ALSO if this were my site? i would be rather harsh on those who have become well known for selling rather than usable parts and ban them from the selling screens, OR even from the site entirely. especially if you have several complaints on them, BUT that's just my opinion.

Post #68, pictures don't mean a thing! What guarantee do you have that you will get the part or parts in the picture? None.
The sellers integrity is what you get, period.

Track him down and pay him a visit and make him an offer he can't refuse

FABO needs to squash him and do it now. We don't need people like that on the forum if they just take advantage of the membership.

There is lots of ppl on here that come here just to sell parts. They don’t engage in any of the other threads. They have a low post count which does nothing to help their integrity. Some offer parts at what seems to be a really good price. That’s what the majority of members are looking for. We throw caution into the wind. Then we end up getting screwed over. But it’s not just a few new guys doing the screwing, it’s some long time members also. Kim
