i thought it would be kewl to see what songs take u back to your younger years.........there's certain ones for me that always remind me of a time and place when i was growing up.

for instance, every time i hear "don't let the sun catch you crying" by gerry and the pacemakers it takes me back to a saturday afternoon of slot car racing with my friends from school. i remember that song playing at the slot track.........how warm the day was, (fall day octoberish) the cars that me and my buddy pat had, and the fun.

for some reason, that song always reminds me of that day at the track, on alameda across from the villa italia mall, in lakewood colorado, it is like i was there yesterday......i think i was in the 6th grade.

there are others that i can't think of right now (probably because i am currently listening to a beach boys record )

what takes you back?

For me is always Here Comes the Sun. I was staring out the back window of the Family Jeep on a road trip. looking at the trees and the sun shining through.

For me, different songs take me different places.
* "Yesterday" (Beatles) - a certain girl in high school
* Almost anything by The Beach Boys or Jan & Dean takes me back to all of high school
* "Cherish" (The Association) - my ex-wifes and my 'song'
* "The Poor Side of Town" (Johnny Rivers) - brings back certain memories
* "Can't Help Falling In Love" (Elvis) - after dating my wife for awhile

...and of course "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" (Jan & Dean) is all things Mopar

Man, there's so many I can't begin to name 'em, and until the names come up, I've forgotten many

I've always like "a little" of just about every kind of music except real heavy metal, heavy jazz, and I refuse to admit that "RAP" is even music

well for some of us, younger days were not that long ago :jocolor:

but I have a good memory with an older song that could classify as rock I guess.

I was waiting in the airport in Dubai, Saudi Arabia en route to Houston,Tx....and I was dozing off (long layover) but I could hear music from a vendor near by and if anyone has ever been there ...this airport is largest one on the planet so they have stores and vendors selling everything you can think of in there .....well near where I was waiting was a vendor selling music CDs and he was having a promotion on "AmreeKAN" classic rock and he was playing this song, he was trying to unload his stock of American Music ......this song sounded so clear and it stuck in my brain ...now every time I hear it ....I get taken back to that memory of when I was traveling a lot.

Great tune Rani! I was just a youngun when it came out, but have always loved it. My choice would be AC/DC'S Are you ready?. I was 18 I think when that album came out, and the cassette was in heavy rotation in my Dart!

Rolling Stones... Honky Tonk Woman, Makes me thing of cruising with a good friend back in 69 in his 67 GTX. His name was Donnie Ervin from Pateros Wa. He passed away a few years ago from a heart attack. R.I.P. Weasel!

Wow Higgs, I remember that slot car track aswell, raced there many times. Mine would have tobe Led Zep 1 Hartbrake girl and Livinlovin maid, just about wore that thing out on the turn table.

This song sort of came out before my time, but then....I got into music really early, so.......man, I thought this song was so bad *** I think it altered my DNA!

When I first started driving, I was running around in a 5-Speed Dodge D50 4x4 with a Snow Plow, had an Alpine Cassette Player and an Alpine CD Player in the truck (Double DIN radio opening, filled with 2 Alpines).

I frequently had The Cars (first album) Cassette Tape loaded in that thing. When I wasn't playing that, I had a Cinderella - Night Songs cassette loaded. Blasted a lot of music out of that truck, kept a "Cassette Briefcase" behind the seats :D

In my Duster, I had an AM/FM/8-Track with a CD Changer. I wore out a Nazareth - Hair of The Dog 8-Track :D People my own age looked at me like I was insane, pulling up in a 340 Duster that loped like a 3 legged dog, blasting Miss Misery at full volume. If any of my friends happened to be standing around, they'd say "We could hear you coming from at least a mile away!" "The stereo?" "No, the exhaust." :D

Just to mix it up, I'd switch to the CD Changer and play the WASP cover from time to time :D

kewl posts, and kewl songs so far........for those of you that just posted music, what's the story behind the song? or, where does it take you when you hear it? i would love to hear the stories.

another one for me is nantucket sleighride by mountain.

this takes me back to my friend's house in high school. his name was bob booth, he was the bass player in my high school band.........we would sit in his bedroom after school and play this song (and others) over and over learning every part, and then play it in the band. bob was a very seasoned player, and at the time could play circles around me. i remember sitting on his bed, playing his brothers hagstrom, picking out the parts, and bob yelling at me when i'd play a part wrong. "that's a minor chord right there" he would say, schooling me on some parts of the progression.

so when i hear that song, it takes me back to that bedroom painted black with all the psychedelic black light posters on the wall, in the afternoon after high school, playing records and learning parts w/bob.

"In The Evening" by Led Zep.....I heard this song when I was a kid, parents had an old 45 record player and was listening to many old records on it that they had. I found this record with a black and red label, looked cool so I played it and when I heard the song I thought it was sooo cool. I thought it was baddass , I think I was about 10 years old. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to when I was on playing it on the 45 in the bedroom sitting on the floor....infact, I still have that very same record :glasses7:

Here is another that takes me right back....GNR "Paradise City" I remember as a kid when the song first came out I heard it for the first time on the radio riding with my parents in their 1979 Pontiac Bonneville. It was getting dark out and we were near the big sky scrapers in the Twin Cites here in MN and I remember looking out the window at them while listening to "Paradise City" and its been one of my favorites ever since :glasses7:
