What timing cover are you using with a 7.3 inch damper

-
Mate I have been into mopar for the past 50 odd years in Australia back in late 70’s I built a turboed 440 phoenix ( first car done by Phil ward),then stuck mainly to stock except for my k16 cl charger.
I know 273 were the only motor here to get the timing cover without the timing marks moulded into the cover which means to get that balancer to work you would likely need an early cover with that balancer,.
EDITED
I’m throwing an edit in here I did finally find this supplier in Melbourne they seem to do a lot for chev and ford as well as the ones for mopar they all are able to have the weights placed on or taken off, I see they are modular iron so will be stronger.
Are you certain they have not accidentally sent you a big block balancer as they do not mention measurements on the mopar ones but do mention upto 8 inch on the chev ones I would be double checking that with them

I looked up that brand pro street and all I can find under that name is 2 automotive workshops one in castle hill and the other in newscastle, are you sure it is not another brands balancer modified or sold for mopar but better suited to ford or gm.
Could you also give me the rationale behind a big balancer like that, does it have to do with needing extra mass for what I guess is a stretched 360 out to your 410 cu in
I know $$$ is crap but that is part of playing with cars you never get your money back on them, mine I bought everything back in 2012 when we were on parity and the bill from summit with shipping and gst was pretty high, not to mention all the things that were bought here for it.

These guys are not questioning your ability I’m sure the pictures of the timing covers are showing you what the factory put out from the start of the la small block through to the last gen3 as in the 300C etc

This balancer is going on the 273. It looked well built, a good price. Yes it’s mopar, vpw, outlaw speed shop and just about everyone has them. Didn’t realise it was 7’3 inch till I got it.
Romacs get their weight thru thickness, this one thru diameter and being nodular iron. Google “ Pro race harmonic balancers”.

I do not know if you have seen the edit I just put in I found it on the site I notice also that the ford key way is clocked the same as the mopar
Have a quick Look at the edit and see if it might make sense

Ok, I’ll add I have a late model water pump too. Maybe I’ll re ask the question “ what timing cover do I use for a 7.3 inch balancer”….
May have already been said but just set the motor to TDC, find a spot where you can bolt that thing somewhere else on unobscured and remark the balancer for TDC to line up to its zero mark.

Well in Australia, this( whatever this is) is the only one available.
I just installed that exact balancer and there were no issues with the timing cover. As a matter of fact I pulled off the 18 month old scat balancer because the painted on timing makes came off. Its even machined to allow you to line it up before the tolerance fit starts.

Let me know if you want any pics

'you gotta pay to play' i've been told on occasion.
neil.
ps ordering from the usa is expensive here in the uk too. if you need parts you have to suck it up and stop bitching about it. :poke:

That’s great mate.
Congratulations on being the only bloke in this thread to have actually done it, thanks for your help.

Yea that’s why I buy new parts… nothing cheap in any of my builds… hell this is the most “ Stock “ engine I’ve ever done, and it’s got Scat rods…
But yea…..

Welcome to ForAbodiesonly........

Offer still stands any questions or pics just yell out.

well, it's toilet adjacent which is what i expected...

but he'd say stop crying about parts prices and harden the **** up and figure out the right cover!
Wanker. Bet you I’ve got more money in projects than you have.

Yea it’s a zoo ain’t it? I keep forgetting I’m talking to Americans who have every option available, where I am there are zero shops that would have anything in stock, and maybe two guys who know that Mopar doesn’t mean cleaner….

Its ridiculous the money we have to hand over for Chrysler ****. I spent $200+ on a Scat balancer 18 months ago that's now useless. At least the Pro Street balancer is made here and has etched on timing marks.

Yea, I hear ya, I blew $270ish on a canton oil adapter plate which said small block Chrysler….. they meant magnum

A local guy makes them for LA's here and they're pretty trick. Have one on my 318 atm and uses a -10 fitting and lines to the oil filter.

What's it run?
Haven’t run it yet, in the middle of building this 273 so I can keep the car running while I work out what I’m doing. And I think the gearbox will grenade, it’s a 904, with a 5800rpm stall, and a Dana 60 rear. When I built this 600hp was fast, now it’s not, and I’ve got a turbo xr Ute that is reasonably quick, I’m thinking of redoing this engine with turbos and a powerglide.

Sounds like fun. The Barras can make stupid power.
