What Was With All The Rave About The 68' Race Hemi Barracuda's

-
These 1968 Barracuda's were so cheaply made, that they didn't even have
handle-cranks for the front windows.

'Very cheap'

Another "option" was hood hinges.

most awsome car ever built for the money. it was all about weight saving and performance----------THEY WERE (ARE) KICK-***!

Forgot to mention, the Pribyl car I posted earlier is the ex-Rich Thomas car out of St. Louis:

hemi reunion 2008

Yeah, I was there. (also went to the 45th this year just north of Cincinnati, no comparison) The 40th was the BEST Mopar event I've ever been to and that's a lot. (i.e. been to every Mopar Nats except 3) Took 779 pictures on Saturday but didn't go back on Sunday because I was between jobs and trying to conserve $$$. Saturday the cars were static in tents. Sunday they fired them up and rolled them down the track. I drove there in my driver 68 cuda and they directed me into the track for some reason. My poor beater was terribly out-classed.

451Cuda.........thanks for showing the pics in the storage building!!! VERY COOL!!!!
Any idea where that car ended up?

We all dream of finding a car like that today!!!!!!!!!!!

This fish has scales! This thread is motivating me to cut my dart's rear wheelwell openings!

In the late 90's a local flipper bought it and sold it to a hockey player on the east coast. From there I don't know. I do know he left it untubbed and just cleaned it up and got it running, so maybe it looks about the same?

OK
I'll play
Anyone know anything about this car?

No respect,

After reaching the Finals of Super/Stock Eliminator at the 1968 NHRA Springnationals,
and reaching the Semi-Finals at the World Championship Finals in October 1968.

Chrysler Racing Division told Don Grotheer he was 'not' good enough to
shift a 4-Speed, and demanded that he run an Automatic in 1969.

They are still so much of a bad *** that they have to run in there own class, SS/AH so the Ford and Chevy guys won't cry!

How times have changed,

In May 1968, the NHRA set a 'minimum', before these BO29 cars hit their
'first' National Event at the {1968 Springnationals}.

* SS/B............ 10.91
* SS/BA......... 11.06

these cars had to have been created with divine intervention .....the only thing I can think of to achieve such perfection.

I feel sorry for anyone growing up without knowing about these types of creations ....I didn't grow up knowing anything about Ronnie Sox when I was a pup ....but im glad I saw the light even if I was a little older when I discovered the greatness of the 68 Race Barracudas and Darts

the dart in any form had to be the best car ever created....it never stops amazing me.

1968 Springnationals

Ronnie Sox had run 10.40's during 'SS/B' Class Eliminations on Saturday,
and was 3/10's quicker than the nearest competitor.

I was there that weekend at Englishtown.

Maybe the best event ever......

Sox & Martin had '5' Super Stockers there, and Dick Landy had '4'.

did you ever get a good look at the sox and martin dusters ?

I want to know more about them .....

In 1970,

We had a couple of guys at our Track {Dover Drag Strip, New York} that
had their Dusters prepared by Sox & Martin for Pro/Stock.

Also, I do remember Herb McAndless running one of them for a year or so.

I saw the S & M Duster at Connecticut Dragway in early 1970 at a Pro Stock meet,
before it was wrecked in an accident with the Car Hauler.

lol more pics! i thought this was a cuda thread!
