I was named David for my Dad's best friend, who became a life-long drunk. You're taking a chance when you name your kid after someone.

When I was having my son I couldn't find a name I like. Finally the night before I went in I decided on the name Clay. But I didn't know what to put with it. So my son's dad said lets name him Randall after his friend. I thought to myself why would you wan to name our son after you pot smoking friend. He won I lost so his name became Randall Clay and goes by Clay.
