im looking into getting new wheels and tires on my 71 swinger, and i wanted to see what info i could get on wheel backspacing(for front and rear tires).
also on the biggest tire i can squeeze in the back.

Here's my 71 with 15 x 7 cop car rallies on the front and rear. Backspacing is 4.25 inches on these rims. I've got the fronts at 225-60 and the rears are 245-60's. I'm fairly certain that if I had another 1/4 inch of BS I could fit 255's back there (someday).

I have a 1970 Dart 4sd 8.75 rearend.

Today I just mounted 255/60/14's on a 7" rim with 4.25 Backspacing. These are M/T Indy SS Bias Plys that have a HOT & Sticky compound, supposed to hook like a slick. Puts right at 9" of tire on the ground with plenty of clearance!

No not at all.

Guys run the same tire in the 15" wheel all the time!

So 255/60/15 is what you need if you are using 15's. 7" Wheel with 4.25 backspacing.

Yep, you can fit 15x7s (4.25" BS) with a 255/60/15 tire, at least a MT anyways, now all was really good untill i had my green bearings installed on the axles, they didn't press them on far enough, the tires still fit, but theres less room in-between the lip molding on the DS, nothing my dye grinder can't fix, but amazingly, it still doesn't rub, but man is it close. Mad dart, those tires look naked under there, why didn't you install some 15s? I hope those tires hook for you, my MT DRs sure do lol.

JOEDUST451,

Going for the OLD SCHOOL look, plus a buddy gave me the wheels. Not that big of a difference 14 or 15's except you do have alot more tire choices! I am going to mount a REAL set of slicks for the track on 15's.

Naked? These are mocked up. Dont know what you mean. The whole car is on stands with no weight on the front suspension. When I let the car down on the ground it does tuck the tire a bit more than shown in the picture. I will be painting the wheels light argent silver and the center caps will be dark argent along with putting on the beauty rings.

You had me trippin so hard that I had to pull some pictures of my car on the ground and it sits even LOWER than yours does with the wheel being right at the wheel well lip tucked up in there.

Newstalgia's web site has a good tutorial on wheel and tire fitment, knowledgable staff too.

I have a 72 swinger, so the 15x7 with 4.25 bs should fit fine on my car correct? This is my first mopar build. I'm currently deployed and my wife bought a 72 dart swinger and trying to order wheels for it. I'm already tracking I'm gonna prolly have to do the 4in bolt pattern swap to the 4.5 in conversion.
