When does money outweigh sentimental value? 1968 notchback build thread

-
Is firm feel going to eventually offer one of those for a borgeson box,
Not that I'm aware of. When I first contacted Matt had said he wanted to do a small run of them. But then he called me back and said tool up wasn't cost effective. So we swapped the one I had for a blank instead.

Next up was exhaust fab. TTI xpipe with generic 12 " header extensions, dynomax mufflers and turndowns. Extensions took a bit of work. I had to pie cut a bit out at the flange and reweld to get alignment correct.

Here's tacked up

Welded up

IMG_20190808_210951771.jpg

Cleaned up. It was a bit breezy and every once in a while the wind would pick up and blow out the welding gas. Even in the garage.

Added vbands to the turndowns and then index/witness marks underneath. So I can adjust and index them the same in case of resonance or droning.

Sent out the trans mount, driveshaft loop, inspection cover and exhaust for coating. Here's after picking them up.

Rear sway bar install. Had to make end links using heim joints. May have to make different ones if the rear is to stiff.

Next I needed to mount my coil. I had been putting it off because I had no good location to mount it. I ended up choosing the firewall, between the heater core and wiper motor. But the coil base didn't fit the location. So this is the starting point.

IMG_20190813_211655102.jpg

Decided I needed to knock off about 5/8 on each side.
IMG_20190813_212130995.jpg

Drill the holes all the way through the base.

Round off the corners and touch up the paint

Next I transferred the measurement onto the firewall, drilled some holes, added nutserts and installed

Ordered an old Ford truck power steering cooler from eBay. Then got it positioned and mounted.

Next on the list was sound deadening. Got a little help from my middle daughter. She's been getting into helping lately. I'm grateful for the company and extra set of hands.

Here is the floor getting the deadening and then getting ready to add 1/8 closed cell foam and Mass backer.

I added the foam and Mass backer to the divider as well. Hopefully it'll keep trunk resonance and noise to minimum.

Floor deadening complete!

Moved the car up from the rear stall for easier access in and out for interior work.

Oh and installed my license plate!

Door stuff is happening. Here I replicated original markings on the drivers door.

Before paint and tear down.

After, not great but it's something.

Door butyl and seals. Got more help from the kid and even the wife stuck her head in to watch.

I enjoy reading the first page of posts and then the last on builds like this.
The discouraging honest look at your car and all the work that needs to be done. Surprisingly this is something that doesn't happen or if it does its many dollars and hours into the project.
Congratulations on your progress it's looking great!

Your build thread is great. Car looks awesome. Gives me lots of ideas to use on my 67 build and sons 69 build as well.

Thanks for the kind words. I still have a laundry list to do but crossing stuff off daily. Hopefully be able to do systems checks soon.

Header fitment... Well not really. Idk who Doug is but I suspect he also owns Milodon. These are D453's and I had to 'massage' 5 of 8 header tubes. Idk why they don't include a hammer with every purchase.

I have the same borgenson box as you with TTI headers. I had to cut to make relief cuts in multiple tubes. I think you came out way ahead of me. Needless to say I'm not impressed with mine at all. Car looks great Btw.

Wouldent block hugger headers work better in that environment.

Idk my buddy has TTI stepped and a borgeson box no issues what so ever. But he's running spool mount where I'm running biscuits.

Khuebner250 This is a bit off topic now. I know you are running 275/35r18 in the front, I believe your backspacing was 6.38. Just wondering how everything thing works as far as wheel tire combo or if you would do anything different. I'm doing mock up right now with wheel tire combo. I have 275/40r18 tires with backspacing tool. Almost seems like I need less back spacing to get away from frame, planned on cutting inside fender lip and rolling it, also pie cutting front fender like you and moselyme. Thanks, love the build, looks great

Damn, hadn't looked at this thread for quite a while. That car looks a lot like my old Formula S.

Mine fit perfect and wouldn't change a thing. However, a 275/40 is almost 27" tall compared to my 275/35 which is 25.6" tall. Another thing is I'm running Dr diff front 13" brembos which increase track width (I think)~3/16 per side.

When I get home I can snap some pics of frame to tire clearance.
