When does money outweigh sentimental value? 1968 notchback build thread

However it doesn't work with the borgeson box. The box is a metric thread and the support nut from firmfeel is standard/stock. Matt at firmfeel ended up sending me a blank support nut that I drilled and rethreaded to M22x1.5.

Interesting. I have the older version of the Borgeson box and the Firm Feel nut worked fine.

That's the first I've heard of that. I was under the impression that all the 1 1/8" boxes were M22 thread pitch. When did you buy yours and did you have a whine issue?

Installed the vanity mirror on the passenger side visor. Not sure if this is original or an add on. Has been in the car since I bought it, when I was 15.

Got the power distribution/ fake battery wired up and the actual battery installed. Made all my battery cable and added a cut off switch.

I think I bought mine in 2014? I know they changed it to a slightly smaller unit not long after I purchased mine. I am still assembling mine, the only whine was more like a whimper when I looked at my checking account after I paid for it.

Finished up the wiring in the car. If you've read a lot of this thread, you know my theme is "stock" appearing. So I'm trying to emulate a stock appearance. Same with the wiring. I originally had the harnesses separated by device to be more modular... ECM, CDI, TCM, engine, light, etc. But upon installing all the harnesses it was to clustered and bulky. So I had to streamline them. Here's some before.

Didn't want to do the traditional giant loop heater hoses. So I spent since time right
Rifling though Napa's stock of molded hoses. Found some I thought would work and went to town. Lmk what you think?

Ended putting in a quarter turn valve and using heat shrink hose clamps. Kinda stream lined?

After that, I figured wth, might as well put coolant in it. Did a pressure test and then a vacuum test. Each held as they were supposed to.

Mixed up some distilled water and dexcool and sucked it in with the vacuum

Got the console done. Along with 99% of the interior. Had to reorder a OD button from Australia. The one I got was latching and I need momentary. And waiting for the horn button sticker to be made. Other than those 2, it's all done.

I still need some help on these few. If anyone has some insight on placement, it'd be appreciated.

Not even sure about this one?

Just finishing up some little stuff. Didn't realize it had been so long since I've updated the post. So here we go!

Took some time to mock up air cleaner box that will seal to the hood scoop. Started with a fan shroud, .625 drop base air cleaner, some cardboard and a whole lot of measuring.

Next up after all the fitting and measuring, I bought some sheet aluminum and vertical bulb seal to finish. Painted it Black and called it good.

Here's the fitment to the hood, seal all the way around.

Installed the rest of my technical stickers. Also, had a few produced to finish off the look I'm going for.

Here the horn button sticker I had my brother design.

And a Nixon for president sticker I attached to a magnetic sheet for easy removal.

Also had my brother design this hood call-out. Unfortunately my printer didn't have reflective white, so it's just a white base.

Finally found a spare 18" donut from a 370z. Had the center hub bore diameter opened up and it fits front and rear now. It was a big challenge to find a 18" donut, that's 26" tall, with a 4.5 lug pattern. Bought some dorman shank lug nuts in 1/2-20 and all is good. This was the only spare I found that would fit over the 13" rotors with Brembos up front.

Also grabbed a foam tire tool insert from an infinity g37. Used an oscillating tool to cut the foam and recess the scissor jack to fit under the spare tire board. Still need to assemble a small tool kit. But everything fits great.

Got my OD button installed haven't been able to drive the car yet to test it. Only thing left before I can drive it is doing the alignment, hopefully this week I can do that.

IMG_20191118_171424.jpg

Oh yeah, the car runs. I've been tuning the Holley EFI a bit. I need to drive it so it can do it's base learn under load and I can finish the tune. It's a little fat at cold idle. I need to fine tune the Coolant Temperature Enrichment %, Air Temperature Enrichment % and the A/F Ratio Offset Tables. But I have good starting point I think based on the start setup and tuning I've done.

Absolute work of art!!!! Unbelievable, congratulations!

Man, I appreciate that. It feels good to give this car some attention. Since I bought it when I was 15, it's long overdue. Just down to little details and adjustments at this point.
However, don't know what I'm going to do with myself when it's done and driving, I enjoy the build process as much as the finished product...Sounds like another build may be in my future.

As a good friend often says...the fun is in the building. He has owned and rebuilt his 32 Ford probably 10 times in 50 years. Currently sitting as a blown flathead hi boy..in Black!
Well done!
