well not to dwell on this a whole lot but it is pretty clear that chrysler without lack of divine intervention will be no longer in 3 yrs or less. that being said if all part companies doing chrysler parts cease production then that leaves used and nos parts. once they go then what??? i know this is alot of hypathetical thinking and occurances here, but surely this could happen if not now one day. i know parts will get harder to find and prices will be through the roof worse than they are in some cases now. so again where would you go??? gm??? ford??? other??? i hate to say it but with the demise of pontiac, oldsmobile, potentially buick, chevy still looks pretty good for parts, engines and aftermarket. ford will most certinally hang in there for mustang, but that is about it. i don't see many other models being "part rich". in all i feel this is a turning point of what we know and call "muscle cars". the future could be all tuners as they seeming crank out an "endless" supply of aftermarket parts for throw away cars. these cars are produced in mass amounts and are in just about any and every yard around. i don't know maybe it is me but i just can't wrap myself around a tuner car. i will always miss the sound and feel of a well tuned v-8. i am always going to miss the whole muscle car era as we know it as well.....sorry for the gloom and doom senerio here but i am just bummed that it looks like the writing is on the wall...

I'm wondering about the GM parts supply. It's pretty good right now but I was told awhile back (by a parts man at a GM dealership) that in a year or so GM was going to stop 'supporting' vehicles over 10 years old. According to him, he wouldn't even be able to look up a part for a vehicle over 10 years old! He had just tried to get a belt for a customer (I forget what kind of vehicle, but it was something common) and was unable to order it. He was able to check and there were literally thousands of them in the warehouses but he couldn't get one. He guessed they were in the process of discontinuing them. Looks to me like they would at least sell out the inventory they had on hand.
To answer your original question; I have been a diehard Mopar guy all my life and I NEVER thought I would say this-- The late model Mustangs are starting to look pretty good to me, in more ways than one.:banghead:
Dallas

well I dont know , When I worked at auto bone I was able to get parts for car lines that no longer exist I would be inclined to belive that as long as there is a demand they will continue to make parts but that is just my .02

dallas i would belive they might stop older parts...but there is such an aftermarket setup for their cars it really wouldn't matter so much i don't think. have you seen some of those camaro parts supplier catolouges??? heck you can even get a whole new 69 camaro vert at your beckoned call if you so desire..... mustangs well i gotta agree. parts will be there for sure too....

sure you can if you look hard enough and long enough and have the money$$. in time these will go away though and then it gets back to the original aspect of the question....when all used, nos, and aftermarket parts are either gone or not available where will you go?? ever notice how few amc show up anywhere? i see some in yards here but not many on the road. i have never tried to look for parts new, nos, or used but i bet there aren't many around. all of this has happened since 86 or 87? roughly 20-25 years and there you have it.....:clock:

I would continue to drive them as long as i could. They should be cheaper to buy. I'm a diehard MOPAR guy.

About a month ago at a pizza inn cruise-in. Young guys with late model mustangs. lined them up One nearly new stang, nice shade of blue, pretty car. The fellow could not stop the rear light fixtures from rattleing with the sterio ( boom box ).
I watched him hit the trunk release button 11 times in under 2 hours. Re adjust his amp, tinker around, seems to be solved, close the lid and the rattle would return. I found this all very comical. Anyway the 2 guys with slightly earlier stangs, I'm guessing 02 ? 04 model ? wern't having this problem with as much or more bump in their trunks. I have to wonder.. Does Honda anticipate the bump in the trunk or just build better cars ?
My brother has a 92 fox body mustang convertible. Just try and find a power window regulator for one of those. They were all poorly designed junk from the git go and the aftermarket cant/wont touch it without first re engineering it.
The way I see it we have 2 options, either keep the classic american made we have or move to modern imports. Ford will survive longer than the others, mostly because there is a lot of old money behind that blue oval. Afterall they did build the first production automobiles. I've seen their engineers drop the ball far too many times.
I watched the Escort evolve. By 1989 they had addressed and corrected most every fault in that car. They built it one more year, 1990, then put out a new model for 91 with a whole new list of problems. Bolts too long that casue the gas pedal to stick to the floor ? Thats right. The first units delivered were held from release until this was corrected. Seemed to me that after all those years of building cars they would have it figured out.
Anyway we knew what we were in for and why. Their business plan was, the service department supports the dealership. I dont know if thats still their practice today.
Oh well, maybe the "dont go there " mentality is at play here. Like those that work at Wendys will not eat there. I worked at Ford so I wont "drive one".

Plenty of old cars, and plenty of cars for anyone. I am partial to mopar but reality is I need a car and I'll drive whatever when the day comes I cant find a mopar. I dont think I'll live to see that day anyway. There's just too many made. So they might not be hemi rams or an SRT challenger. I drive a busted up rusty '97 Neon and it does what I want and i like the way it drives. When I'm 60, I might be up to a 2009 model...lol.

Chrysler is not the only car manufacturer out there. I am sure I will still be able to find a car to drive some where.
