Which basic car batteries Made In USA?

-
I just checked my Optima red top battery and it says on the sticker that it is MFD at Optima Batteries Inc in Aurora, CO. I have had that battery for over 13 years and still going strong, best battery I have ever had!! I bought it for $79.99 at the time, thought it was spendy at the time, probably 3 times that now. But next battery I buy for my Valiant is gonna be another!! Plus, these are gel filled so they are tough, resist heat and vibrations better, but the best is they don't leak acid.

yea that is an old one.. optima is made by JCI these days. after JCI took over is where i started reading alot of complaints about them.

Is that a gel or liquid/acid filled battery? If I'm gonna spend that much it had better be a gel battery, no leaking acid in my engine compartment.

Yes a dry cell, but a little more on that answer!

Odyssey batteries are "dry" cells only in the sense that they do not have liquid acid sloshing around. They are all of the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) variety.

Good to know, thanks

I wish I had bought 4 of them, mine was around $70 at the time I bought it, they are WAY more than that now :banghead:

Oreilly's are also JCI

there are only a couple few battery manufacturers in the USA, most are the same just with a different name.

Speaking of DieHards, I bought 2 Platinums for my Dodge diesel dually after I found out that they are basically relabeled Odyssey batteries! I had an Odyssey in my race car for a while with great results and the DieHard Platinums are the same thing, but less expensive. I don't plan on ever getting a conventional lead/acid battery again for anything I own.

I don't care for a Walmart type warrenty that you can keep going back to replace batteries on a regular basis, even if it's for free. How much is your time worth and how often do you want to risk getting stranded somewhere?

Well put,...platinums I change every seven years,..Fire dept. reasons,...thats a timeline I can live with,...

Never had a prob w/Sears and warrenty issues,...Gotta be able to start at 0 degrees, and keep up with a whole bunch of accessory crap that goes into my rig,,...lights, plug ins, radios, (giant power suckers),...

the optima i bought in the spring says made in Mexico. Batteries Plus in Spokane used to sell them but stopped when they started coming from Mexico.

I have red top in the Demon and yellow top in the Ram. I have had batteries from advance (did't last more than 2 yrs) and always had diehard. The diehard lasted 4 yrs but preferred the optima due to it won't leak all over the place. Sad to say the optima is now mfg in mexico.

Sears has its own gel filled batteries, no idea where they made at but mine is holding up. Vibration can be rough on a battery

I've been buying Diehards as long as I have been driving (32 years). Although the prices keep going up (what hasn't?), they seem to last. Have one in my Durango for over 6 years, and the one in my Barracuda has been in there for 8 years! By the way I just don't buy from Chinamart at all!

Dirty little secret is that JCI makes most everybodies car batteries- a friend was a manager of an Interstate Battey warehouse for years...the only real difference is the case and the warranty
